Handbrake Failed on Lease Car!

Why would this be the financier's issue?
Either there's a fault with the handbrake (the car is under the manufacturer's warranty) or it was user error.1 -

When parking at any time and especially on any slope or incline it is advisable to leave a car in gear to prevent this sort of thing happening. As so often in life, you are right and the younger generation is wrong. In driving lesson number 1 she would have been shown what to check before starting.3 -
What car is it? It is possible that there is a known fault, I remember at work the Ford vans had an issue that the handbrakes released as they cooled down so had a service bulletin about it to ensure they were left in gear before the fix was applied.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

like what was said before.
Handbrake repair = warranty
damage to car and property = insurance0 -
@boobyd what an appropriate misspelling from you "electronic break" LOL
I much prefer my old fashioned handbrake on my very new Aygo and always leave it in gear when parked.
As for the OP, have you actually identified a fault with the handbrake or was it just a plain old mistake on your part ?
Is there a recall for handbrake issues on the vehicle ?1 -
psychic_kitten said:I came out today to find that my car had rolled down my driveway and into my garage door, catching the brickwork. This has left a dent and several major scratches to the paintwork.
I lease this car on a three year deal which commenced in June 2019, so the car is 21 months old. I pay for a servicing plan through the dealership and it was last serviced less than 12 months ago.
Yes before it is asked, the handbrake was definitely on but it wasn't in gear. I've never had any issues to suggest the handbrake was getting slack.
I haven't contacted the company I lease from to tell them immediately because I wanted to seek some advice first - if there is an issue with the handbrake which has caused this, am I likely to still be liable for the repair cost? Am I also likely to be liable for having the handbrake sorted?
I know there are people out there who would try to pull a fast one and claim there was an issue when it was just user error. I'm well aware you wouldn't fool someone who knows what they're looking for so this is not the case.
Any help would be greatly appreciated 😕1 -

Have you been sitting under that apple tree again, Adrian? 😁

Never leave a car in gear, in case you forget and jump forwards and hit a car in front of you. Proviso being if on a steep hill put hand brake on at max you can. Car in gear opposite to way car is pointing, and turn the rear end or front end of the tyre into the kerb also depending on whether facing up or downhill.
Always worked for me and I've never lost a car on hill parking. But to avoid embarrassment I won't name the two people I do know who have!!I'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.0
