O/S Daily Thursday 6 May 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, cloudy and slight frost, so nippy start, damp underfoot after some heavy showers last night. Similar forecast for today.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was beef stew, and veg, used up LO veg and yorkshires from Sunday's roast. Not sure what we'll be having tonight but will organise whilst I'm working my way through my "to do" list for today. List is quite a big one - so will get going with it and just try to get everything done.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the new Daily. It's beautiful at the moment, blue sky and sun, sadly showers are forecast by this afternoon. Yesterday we had blue sky all day long but by heck there was a nithering wind blowing and it felt really cold. My trip along the valley bottom didn't really live up to promise. A few of the shops I had been hoping to visit were no more - they had sadly closed down, obviously casualties of Covid. I probably won't bother going there again.
Today I am beyond excited!! For the first time in 14 months I am going to do my own grocery shopping! I have cancelled my Tes*o delivery for tomorrow in readiness for going wild in the aisles today! DD and I are off to the big newish Lidl next town along. I've just been once before, pre Covid, it's really spacious and easy to get round.
The now regular Thursday morning job of cleaning the kitchen and bathroom will have to be postponed until this afternoon if I cba. .But the fridge has already been cleaned and tidied in readiness for today's big shop! DD is picking me up around 8.15 at the start of the school run so I must get myself organised in readiness.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for our poorlies and poorly loved ones. GERS I hope you had a peaceful and uneventful night, you are always in my thoughts. SNOOZER I hope Steve is progressing well. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"16 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.It's dry and sunny here but frosty, wish someone would tell the weather we're into May and it's time it warmed up.Yesterday was an ok day, I went to the shops, did the usual jobs round the house. I'm going to have a cardmaking session today, I made a list of cards needed last night and got some things out ready. I wouldn't mind a trip to H*bbycraft, just for a look round, there are one or two things I want, but I know I would see stuff I didn't know I wanted, iyswIm.I had made a small circular cushion for a kitchen stool, but looking at it yesterday, it's a bit baggy, so I'm going to take it apart, and pull it in a bit, tighten it up. The cards will be done first though, probably won't do the cushion cover today - when I'm card making I faff about far too much, changing my mind about what to do, and what shouldn't take long takes me ages.Hoping Gers and her Mum have had a peaceful night, and that Snoozer's Steve is progressing well. Thoughts to our other poorly people as well.Take care folks.14

Good morning everyone
It's a much calmer day here than we have had for the past few days. The wind has dropped and it doesn't feel as cold.
We hopefully have a visit from an engineer today to get to the bottom of why our smart meter stopped working after EDF did a software update several months ago. Since then we have had nothing but problems and have had our meters changed quite a few times. Yesterday, we were without power yet again and I had a bit of a breakdown about it so Steve wrote to the CEO of EDF complaining about the poor service. He had a reply very quickly to say that it would all be sorted out today so I have my fingers crossed.
The district nurse came yesterday to change my dressings and was very pleased that they look so much better. I am still in lots of pain with one of my legs and this keeps me awake at night so I am very tired at the moment. I am definitely on the mend though so hopefully the pain will lessen in a few days.
I am having a week off cooking and so is Steve so I have bought a load of ready meals for the freezer and everyone can fend for themselves. I expect I shall have to give back my OldStyle badge now 🤣🤣 but honestly I need a break. The shopping is being delivered this morning but I shall leave that to the kids to put away as I shall be back in bed by then.
Lee has just made me a cup of tea which I am very appreciative of so I shall slurp that before heading back upstairs.
Gers, my thoughts are with you and your mum as always xx
Snoozer, I hope your Steve is well on the road to recovery xx
Take care everyone and have a good day xx14 -

Morning all! Well it's certainly not sunny this morning.Turned into super hail yesterday, then rain rain rain. This morning, it's obviously just rained when I got up and is threatening to again. This means my plans will be curtailed again, no garden until it's sunny. That makes me a fair weather gardener at the moment, but it's so cold! And I'm such a wuss! I'm practically sitting on the radiator as I type this.In stead of gardening then, I think I will go through the house today with play eye spy with my little decluttering eye...because I haven't done that for a while and there may be things that can go. There's also a tump of paperwork to sort out because despite opening it next to the recycle bin and getting rid of anything straightaway that meeds recycling, the rest that doesn't still has to be hole punched and filed or responded to.Oh! And it's voting day obviously, so we'll go and vote this morning. It's good to hear steves improving snoozer, hope he is well enough to come home today. nanny, I'm glad you got a face to face appointment, take a notepad, I always forget something that they say..Ruby, hope you passed the speed awareness and again, thanks for the feedback, I'll make it when I get some wholewheat pasta in [ don't ask, I have enough normal pasta to fill a ship] . dp1, thanks for sharing about your knickers , now you'll be fine in case you have an accident
monna, how lovely for your friend, it sounds very envirofriendly. Gers, rollercoaster hugs. Hey all reading along, hope you're OK, or if not, hope you're continuing to plod with hope...stay sane!

Thanks everyone, a doctor popped in to see him last night and told him that he would have the last antibiotic and then if he didn't spike a temperature he'll be able to come home tonight. Fingers crossed.
I want to make some veggie flapjack and banana oat bars for Esben, I have some very black bananas. Then this afternoon I'm supposed to be popping over to have a cuppa with Crystal but that depends on the weather, I don't want to sit in the garden in the rain.
Not a lot else to write, however, I hope all the poorlies are as well as can be expected and that Gers mum had a peaceful night.14 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need especially Gers and snoozer.
We had a busy day yesterday the engineer has repaired the bow thruster we did a self pump out and as usual the hose moved and I got covered in the poo tank contents.
I really wish Steve would stop catastrophising, he gets so worked up and we both end up exhausted, me from trying to reassure him and him from worrying.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.14 -
Morning folks.I wrote earlier on but obviously didn't press 'post' hard enough! My night was mostly peaceful, I woke a few times though not for long. I've played the same 30 minutes of my book about four times and have no idea what's happened as I fall asleep again so quickly.Yesterday started in fraught mode as no carers appeared and when I phoned the service I was told that nothing was on the system. After four days the referral hadn't gone from Social Work to council and we've only had emergency visits - I had a small but effective meltdown which shifted things along. The social worker had completed the paperwork but not sent it off, just rubbish. Anyway, things are now working smoothly and it's great. DM had a quiet night and is still asleep.Alan came back to take away the old mattress, we squeezed it into his car with a bit of effort. DM's favourite GP called round on her way home for a personal chat with her, it was so lovely of her. She was on holiday when the crisis started so DM was allocated another GP, who is just as lovely. The two medics will work together to help DM.Alan is coming back this morning to dismantle the final bit which needs a specialist screwdriver. Later another friend is coming to take me for my second vaccination whilst DM's friend will sit with her. Such kindness is really fabulous.I sent off my postal vote a couple of weeks ago so I don't have to worry about that.My thoughts are with all our poorlies - it's good news about Snoozer's Steve coming home. Nelski, I hope your hands are feeling less painful. Dumpling, great about your leg, long may the healing carry on. And healing vibes to everyone needing them.Happy Thursday to all.15

Good morning all; very dull and dismal looking out there today.
Our day out at Whipsnade yesterday was excellent. Not too many people, lots of picnic benches for eating at and several well spaced catering outlets at various points around the zoo. The animals were pretty good too! We saw most things before the rain and hail started at 2pm and we had to make a dash back to the car.
Today, like Gers, I have to venture out for my second jab. Everyone tells me the second AZ comes with far fewer side effects than the first so I'm hoping that's true. I must pick up some milk and a few bits whilst I'm out but otherwise it's a normal household day.
Hope all goes as well as it can for everyone today.15 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Glad to hear that you had another better night Gers, although the non visit by carers was bad. I hope you have no more non visits. It is lovely that your friends are supporting you through this difficult time, hope the vaccination goes ok.
Its a bright morning, but brrrr the wind is cold. I spent yesterday hunting for a small greenhouse for DB, may be small in size but not in cost!! Its DB's birthday present.
It was cold overnight, glad that DB covered up the vulnerable stuff in the garden. I have to go out this morning and put in place plants for the gardener to put in tomorrow, I also want him to help me re-pot the lily, could do woth another night of rain to make sure it comes out of the old pot ok.
My cut finger is starting to heal, changed the dressing yesterday. I am hoping to start sewing the binding down on Niblets quilt. I looked at the blocks for Little miss's quilt, I need to sort them out a couple are not on size for some reason.
Supper tonight, cooked gammon and salad, possibly a jacket spud as well.11
