Car insurance- advice needed

Hi, I am due for new car insurance on the 19th May, but have 6 points on my license which expire (3 years) on the 25th May. Is it best to buy a gap insurance for a couple of weeks, then take up a new policy when the points have passed the 3 year mark, or simply just bite the bullet and buy a new policy whilst the points are still on my license. Many thanks.

Is that when they come off your license or when the conviction is spent?0

it depends on what the points are for as to how long they stay on your licence.0

The GAP insurance only covers the "gap" between the insurance payout and the value of replacement car or outstanding finance depending on the type of GAP product. So, you will still need to have an insurance on the car.
Just insure the car once you take delivery by getting the best quote on comparison website. It is likely the 6 points won't make massive difference to the premium. Once the point drop off, you can do a new quote and compare the new premium to the cancellation charge and decide if it is worth to cancel the current insurance and take a new one out.0 -
Expire after 3 stay on for 4 and insurance ask about them for "upto" 5.They ask the date so will 6 days make any difference?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...1

The only difference on 25th May is that your points won't count towards a totting-up ban. The insurer still needs to know about them.0
