Yep, I've got a Potterton which did just that! Only happened to me once so far...

It definitely would have been worth waiting for a day to take it over to the Tuesday - you'd likely have paid a quarter of this to a local heating engineer. 
I went without hot water for 4 days (and had a 3 year old at the time) - it's nothing to panic over
