    We were looking at an open faced cupboard with a dividing shelf to support both units. However the kitchen designer was concerned vibration from the washing machine might disrupt the cabinetry.

    It wont be a problem. As mentioned, get a stacking kit and make sure your appliances are level. Just done this myself as we've shifted appliances into a cupboard.
