In recent years the cost of Economy 7 electricity has risen as a percentage of the cost of day-rate electricity so it is already less attractively priced than it used to be. I'm not sure if this is just down to the phasing out of coal power or other factors. What we may see in future are time-of-use tariffs that vary throughout the day, depending on demand.anewloginapparently said:

I suspect it's more due to the closure of nuclear power stations. Nuclear once made up 25% of the UK's generation, but since 1990 we've closed 4.4GW of nuclear plants and have only commissioned 1.2GW (Sizewell B ). Nuclear is now closer to 10% of generation and CCGT's run overnight to keep up with demand; E7 isn't needed any more to balance the grid.Reed_Richards said:
