Cheap Energy Club data can be Out-of-Date
Just a warning that the Cheap Energy Club data that MSE provide can be wrong resulting in an incorrect decision not to switch.
I find that, in the "CURRENTLY YOU ARE PAYING" pane, Flexible Octopus June 2018 v1 (a tarrif given to an electric-only relative who was switched to them when Iresa collapsed) is still at the original rate of 14.637p/unit, 19.383p/day. The current rate is now 16.29p/unit, 29.67p/day, a 17% increase for a 2900 kWh per year user.
Is this kind of MSE error commonplace?
Is there any reason they are unable to get the current rates?

Yes, I'm frustrated with Cheap Energy Club omissions and inaccuracies too. For several years the tariff I'm on has not been listed in the drop down options. I've tried emailing Cheap Energy Club and once they did add the missing tariff. However, more recently there has been no response to such requests.
I've also asked them to add a "custom" tariff for each user to configure for themselves which would allow everyone to ensure accurate results but that's not been forthcoming either.
I'd say that Cheap Energy Club is only indicative that your current tariff may not be the cheapest but you are going to have to compare rate figures from a recent bill to double check before actually switching.
You'd like to think if they offer auto-switching that the base data is accurate but it seems not. It's a free service so one can't expect perfection but it is a shame nonetheless.1 -
Nobody should be using an autoswitching service under the assumption it's being done in your interests,it's not,it is to provide financial gain for the switching provider and the supplier.
Also astounded that many dont check what their signing up for or to,until it's too late then are quick enough posting here for example about being "ripped off","deceived" or "misled",usually transpires upon having provided factual information not to be the case.
The CEC isn't a greatly useful tool, use Citizens Advice or Which instead for more useful comparisons, always check any stated savings claimed actually match up yourself before switching, then check them again.2 -
The problem with citizens advice is there doesn't seem to be a way to avoid typing data into it constantly.2
