I did have three figures in my savings but they weren't interested.
The money could be gone tomorrow, provides no reassurance.  Finance companies discount "savings" for that very reason.

I got turned down by the rental agency for a flat because of the formula they used for my 'income', I think the max I could have afforded according to them was £750 per month.  I did have three figures in my savings but they weren't interested.
I bather from your other posts you did succeed in renting somewhere.  If you don't mind me asking how did you acheive it? I can see myself in a similar position.

Sorry everyone I was nervous not to out my savings and halved it in error -  six figures, not three.

@Scotbot I was only able to rent somewhere smaller for £600 per month, plus council tax, utilities etc.  I think renting for the year cost me about £8K in total.

I worked in the business for years.  One of our worst tenants was a solicitor.

You're unemployed - so I'm not surprised they're looking at employed applicants first.

Would you feel better if you and the agent go to the bother of viewing the property and they rent to someone else?
There is no guarantee that you would be selected because you have viewed it.

I understand that, but it is uncomfortable to be discriminated against by someone who has no idea about us. The characteristics required by the LL don't really mean that the chosen tenant will be any more upstanding than we would be.
Put yourself in the LL's shoes. It's all about risk. You may have savings, but you are unemployed and therefore have no form of income. How would the rent be paid if you had no savings? As far as the LL is concerned you are in a higher risk band than say someone who is in full-time employment.
