Out of a job, pregnant and no income

Thanks everyone for your advice. It’s much appreciated.I’m not sure of exact reasons her other half isn’t working. I know he is self employed but the business isn’t doing great due to the pandemic and he isn’t eligible for the grants. They’ve considered him going to seek employment elsewhere but there isn’t much out there he can do (my partner was in a similar situation but with a massive stroke of luck his business recently took off)
I haven’t really gone over her financials with her. I know that she has been in lengthy talks with her solicitors as well as a pregnancy advice line over the matter and all parties agree that taking this legal is the best step forward.I appreciate all the advice and I’ll be passing it on to her (albeit the maybe the part where I should tell her to not get herself pregnant 🙄)
I am just trying my best to find as many options for her as she’s not in a good place right now.She would love to find a work from home job and she is trying to seek more self employed work but she’s been out of touch with it for a while and is trying to build up contacts. If anyone knows of anyone wanting a private PA or secretary then I know someone 🤣 haha.I just wish I could help her more but I’m under a lot of stress myself after recently having emergency spinal surgery (and I’m taking my doctors to court too over that so I have that to concentrate on as well as recently started a new job) but there’s only so much Google can help me with!1 -
You've been very good to try to find her benefits help in the first place 🙂 If she were to need more advice perhaps she could come here herself to ask, especially as things like a potential health assessment and/or PIP are best done firsthand, with all the relevant information available. I wish them and you all the best with your respective battles, and I hope you heal and recover as well as possibleSiobhan7 said:I just wish I could help her more but I’m under a lot of stress myself after recently having emergency spinal surgery (and I’m taking my doctors to court too over that so I have that to concentrate on as well as recently started a new job) but there’s only so much Google can help me with!1 -
Her partner may be limited in what he can do, but that shouldn’t stop him from looking. If they have a joint UC claim then that may be the expectation anyway.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
@Siobhan7
There are lots of work from home jobs out there but I think it is knowing where to look.- Kelly Services https://www.kellyservices.co.uk/jobs?sort_type=relevance&query=work+home&selected_locations=&submit=Search
- and Concentrix https://careers.concentrix.com
- Also Manpower agency were recently looking for work at home operatives for the Covid Vaccination line but not sure if they still are

So it's not actually the case that her other half can't work as you said in your OP.
He will probably have to look for any job to tide them over for the time being. Also, despite the fact that she loves the house they currently rent and she doesn't want to move, they may have to consider moving somewhere cheaper.
Charity shops are a good place to look for things she will need for the baby. Also, she could try Facebook Marketplace and a website called Freegle where people give things away for free.1
