@Sun_Addict - I did some housework in the end - getting things tidy and laying the table - which included polishing the inserted glass in the the doors - this is like painting the Forth Bridge - you can continually keep polishing as there is always wet dog nose marks smearing the glass!🐶
@nannygladys - it's lovely having meals cooked for you isn't it?  DD is a good cook and is always trying out new recipes. 

@redofromstart - the elder bigger dog was lying out on the grass earlier quite happily eating his pig's ear in what felt like a 40mph gale, plus sideways rain!  He is a very thick coated breed who gets hot so he loves it when there is a bit of ground frost out there - he will lie on it for ages! 

@milann - currently we are experiencing very strong gales - forecast up to 50mph - plus heavy rain/sleet. Not really a day to have a good walk!  As we are situated on the NW coast alongside the Gulf Stream one doesn't experience as much snow here compared to inland or on the East coast. It just rains quite a bit with wind!

@Onebrokelady - I find that the head torch stays on as long as I wear it over my outdoor knitted hat!

Yesterday the weather was mixed. OH took the dogs out in the morning - the weather was nice and clear then, although he said it felt bitter out there. Then we had more gales and heavy rain so I didn't venture out. 

Today we have much of the same weather wise - hopefully it will calm down later and we can go for a walk. 

As the Christmas chocs and sweets have been devoured, DD has announced she is now going back to being good dietary wise and I'm joining her.  To be honest, both her and OH are reasonably careful food wise and I always find I never put on weight when I am staying with them even though I feel I eat very well. They are both very good with their portion sizes - and incorporate a lot of veg in their meals.  Today DD and I had her homemade black bean and chorizo soup for lunch and some of OH's homemade rye and spelt bread.

A NSD again yesterday. 

Today I ordered a small New Year's present for DD's elderly neighbour who has been poorly - some shortbread and tea in a caddy.

I find it a bit strange when I have to take a back seat and let everyone else do the catering. I am getting better at it 😏

The soup was very nice @milann - very dark in colour as you can imagine and spicy. 😋

The weather has been mixed again - it has been quite cold yesterday and today - it didn't rain much yesterday though it started again hard this afternoon - a little bit of golden sun came through, then the mist rolled in and out, but the wind is blowing hard at the moment and it's teeming!  

Yesterday afternoon DD and I paid a visit to the neighbours to see how the elderly member of the family was - she was much better and up and about. 

I've done a grocery delivery order for when I get back home next week. I've made out a two week meal plan using recipes from Michael Moseley's Fast 800 Easy Recipe book.  I'm not following it to the letter by consuming only 800 calories per day - I'm taking it up a few hundred calories more per day by adding more brown rice/pasta/noodles or wholemeal bread so it will be both healthy and fulfil my appetite at the same time. 

I've shifted back to try Tesco again which has worked out cheaper then Waitrose. I've been disappointed in Waitrose recently - it doesn't seem to stock as much in the way of choice as it used to. DSis says although it stood above Sainsbury's or Tesco's at one time, she thinks there's no real difference between them now and she has gone back to Sainsbury's, which she finds cheaper and has more choice.

I'm have a feeling I already have quite a few of the ingredients on the meal plan at home, but can adjust the order next week.

It’s a pity the weather is so mixed for you whilst up there. It doesn’t seem 2 minutes since you were planning your trip and now you’re talking about coming home. Enjoy the rest of your time there.

Thanks @milann - I always keep in my mind that the weather can be pretty foul up here this time of year so I'm never that disappointed with it!  You can't do as much as when I visit at the beginning of summer, but the main thing is that I get to spend time with DD. 😃👍

The time has gone very quick though - it doesn't feel like I've been here for over a week!

We have had snow today , it didn't stay around long though.  Ore expected overnight , we will see. 

You are finding things to do and relaxing that's what your break is all about. Enjoy your time with DD .

Glad to hear you're having a fabulous time up there - we had the gales on NYD over in Uist but it sounds like they'd blown themselves out a bit by the time they got across the Minch to you! It really was as much as I could do to stay on my feet against it on new year's morning!  You're right about prepping for the weather though - and all the rotten stuff gets forgotten immediately when you get one of those cold, crisp, clear winter days - just stunning!
