Renting with a pet?

Totally this! If I were a landlord, I would far rather someone had a pet than a child!pinkteapot said:
As an aside, I'm always bemused when landlords won't accept a pet but will accept as many toddlers as you like.
When we moved into our flat, we ripped up the living room carpet to find a myriad of stains on the underside of it.; I've never seen anything like it. The previous owners had 2 kids. I hate to think what those stains were.....0 -
I was actually going to say that we had far more trouble renting after having kids. Never had any issues as a couple, but with a baby in tow we were turned down for the first four places we offered on during the last move.pinkteapot said:As an aside, I'm always bemused when landlords won't accept a pet but will accept as many toddlers as you like.
It's probably the same for both: where you're in a market with high demand and there's multiple offers, no kids/pets will be preferable to those with them.0 -
Funny you should say that, quite a few of the adverts I have looked at have said “no smokers, no children“ but none of them have actually excluded pets! I guess it’s a case of asking the agent when I come to actually starting to look for a rental.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0

The OFT view was:
Our objection is to blanket exclusions of pets without consideration of all the circumstances. Such a term has been considered unfair under comparable legislation in another EU member state because it could prevent a tenant keeping a goldfish. We are unlikely to object to a term prohibiting the keeping of pets that could harm the property, affect subsequent tenants or be a nuisance to other residents.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
LOL!! Sounds exactly like one of our previous cats!!pinkteapot said:PollyWollyDoodle said:This is worrying me as I’m looking to rent in the near future, I have sold my house and can’t find anything to buy. I have two cats. I’ve been told by friends that renting with cats isn’t a problem - one has had seven cats in a rental property! - but I haven’t actually got as far as finding out terms and conditions yet.
You say that...
