Advice on getting deposit back

Hi,
I moved out of my flat late March. The contract states the letting agent must start discussion of deposit deductions within 10 working days of me moving out.
I called & emailed several times chasing to get my deposit back or start the process. They have only just sent me a checkout report as of today about 30 days since moving out. As expected it has many cleaning items & I expect they will try and make huge deductions from my deposit for this.
My question is. Am I able to refuse losing any deposit due to it going outside the rules set in the contract?
Thanks

Request your deposit back through whatever scheme it is in. If the landlord disputes it they need to evidence why.
Unlikely that the fact it took longer than normal would have any baring on what you may owe them1 -
When did you start your claim for the full deposit back from the relevant scheme? I've always done this the day after the tenancy ends.0

I haven't had experience getting deposit back in the past. I was expecting the landlord to contact me with deductions first. On the deposit scheme all I can do is submit a dispute
