Glad all is sorted but…. Do you know the figures are correct based on meter readings and not estimates?  I see no mention of smart meters so are you sure?  £2300 is a lot of electricity for a house that also has gas, probably well over 5000 kWh / year.  What was the meter reading when you joined and what is it today?

So whilst you were on tariff for both Gas & Elec, EDF only billed for the Gas for 2 years ?

This is a classic case where the ' Back-billing' rules should apply, and EDF are only entitled to bill you for Elec consumed over the last 12 months, and those 12 months are counted back from the date they did manage to raise a bill for the Electricity.

"What should you do if you receive a back bill?

If you receive a back bill, the 12-month rules will apply if:

    • You’ve asked your supplier to send you a bill, but you haven’t received one for over a year
    • Your bills have been based on estimated readings rather than the accurate meter readings you’ve provided
    • You’ve been charged for the wrong meter without realising
    • Your supplier hasn’t resolved a query you raised about your account or meter
    • Your supplier failed to reassess a payment arrangement, such as a direct debit, within 15 months."
I don't think any of these apply in this situation because the OP never asked for a bill.

It isn't clear from what has been posted if it is a case of back-billing or if the gas was being billed, but just not paid for...

I’m under the assumption this is an in-line tariff and all bills are available online; not everyone checks their in-line account and are shocked when a large amount is owing to not making sufficient payments or not supplying meter reads.
happened all too often when I worked for one of the big 6 and then customers would have the cheek to complain!! Lol
