once your once your children move out can social housing make you down size?

    But the "bedroom tax" is still a thing, if your accommodation is funded by benefits.

    Not usually no. Most social housing tenancies are long term and do not contain a clause on downsizing due to under occupancy

    It will of course depend on your tenancy type. I.e. if in temporary accommodation then yes possibly.

    But if you have an assured tenancy then not usually no.

    Of course you will continue paying full rent and if claiming any benefits wouldn't be elible for benefits for the empty room

    As others have said, you cannot normally be forced to downsize, however, you won't get help with the cost of 'extra' bedrooms if you are receiving benefits, and you may want to think about whether it would make sense to downsize so that the property can be used for someone in need of it - depending on your age you might think about whether you may need a more accessible property in future, for instance, or one which is closer to amenities.

    Were you given an initial 5 year long tenancy? If so, then they do have the power. If not, then they cannot.

    Five year tenancies were introduced to address these and other issues, but they didn't really come into operation until around 2015 (post bedroom tax), so most social housing tenancies are traditional. Remember, nothing is for life. If you HA sells its interest to another HA then the new landlord can change the terms, but its very rare they do.
