Not wanting to change suppliers because of the possible aggravation. I have decided to contact my current ones BG and powergen/eon and change to monthly DD from quarterly paper bills.
Now I know that I could save 2 -300 pound going the whole hog but what would be the best option available to me doing it my way.
Read my own meter, lock-in tariffs and DD anything else? What could I expect to save just by doing that. Help please.

The internet based tariffs are generally the cheapest.

With BG that is their Click 4 tariff which you apply for on line.

It is impossible to say how much you would save as it depends on what your current tariff is, which area, how much gas/electricity you use.

If you really don't want to change supplier your options are limited.

Caveman, you are using twice the national average for electricity. The gas usage looks like you have gas central heating. !!!

Yes, I do have gas CH. I am surprised that I use that much electricity (twice the national average)
If I tell you I live in a 4 bed semi, somebody in all day long. Always a cup of tea on the go and we only use a tumble drier (no clothes line).
We do have an extravagent usage in that way. Would like to save a few bob on the bills though.

You need to look at your bills and work out how many kWh for gas and electricity you use each year. If you haven't got the old bills ring your supplier and ask them.

You also need to know what tariff you are currently on for gas and electricity. You can then go on any of the comparison websites and put in that information and it will tell you how much you will save.

As said earlier the maximum savings are usually for dual fuel on an internet tariff. Southern Electricity seems to be about the cheapest for most people, but other companies like BG's Click 4 are not far behind.

If you insist on staying with separate suppliers(BG and Powergen) you may find the savings to be less.

You are always going to lose out if you don't opt for duel fuel with DD's though.

The change of supply process is not hassle for everyone but you will never hear about the happy customers most of the time. As long as you take & submit your reads, it should be pretty smooth.
