My car was side swiped by a motorcycle yesterday, he failed to stop, caused a nasty scrape to the rear passenger door.
I have dashcam footage (sods law the date has defaulted !) however.......it gets me the registration.

I have reported it to the Police as a fail to stop. Reported to my insurance  (as yet i am unsure if to claim or not if liability isn't found in my favour)

I have a £350 excess and lose 2 years NCB if the 3rd party wont accept liability and i claim from my policy.
or
I could just pay all the repair myself (im going to a get a ball park quote but depends on whether the door can be fixed or needs replacing)
or
3rd party accepts liability and all's good.

I accept all 3 will result in increased premiums but the last 2 less so i think ?

Other than that do i just now sit and wait ?

I assume there is no requirement or benefit in my contacting his Insurance ? (i got details via paying MIB)

Ps, oddly the bike is insured, taxed and tested so no idea why he sped off.

Maybe the rider isn't insured / tested (or had nicked the bike and/or committed other offences).

You need to ask the police to issue a s172 notice requiring the driver's details. They may do this on your behalf but you should check with them.

You've recorded it on your dashcam, so it'll be harder for the bike driver to deny liability. The correct answer is to go through your insurance company who'll get their insurance company to pay up. You won't lose any NCB but will be penalized in future as a higher risk.

Your insurance company already know so I'd let them sort it.

What was actually recorded, the side swipe or simply a bike riding past?

The whole thing from the bike coming down the slip road, over taking a learner by crossing the chevrons onto the dual carriageway and then the physical hit can be heard and the car shake seen as he collides with me and the bike basically coming into the passenger window he can then be seen riding away . He simply failed to look right in his eagerness to overtake the car on slip road.

You can hear a bike overtaking a learner? Does that sound different to hearing them overtake someone who's just passed?

What can actually be seen rather than just heard?

Thanks but i'm not asking for help in determining liability i'm asking what actions i need to take in the event of a hit and run/fail to stop. The whole thing is recorded visibly but ofc as the bike gets level to the passenger side and out of view of the windscreen it reverts to what you can hear, ie the impact, then as he rides off ofc you see him again.

    There's two angles here...

    1. Insurance. Give the plate and vid to either your insurer or his. You can find his through askmid.com from the plate. Sit back, let them get on with it.

    2. Police for failure to stop. Call 101, and send them the video. Sit back, let them get on with it.
