This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Scarlet and hugs to all those in need.
We had a pub lunch yesterday with Steve's brother and his new girlfriend, much to my amazement she was lovely, the previous few have been very strange. One was a loud and aggressive drunk, one was a Walter Mitty type who claimed to work for MI5 and one spent ages telling me how she cheated the benefit system. This one works in a petrol station, has two grown up kids and was very nice. What a relief.
No idea what we are doing today, it depends on how much it rains.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off Scarlett.Things here haven't changed too much though DM seems to teeter on the edge before moving back from it a bit. The weekend has been calm. I've been spending time sorting out paperwork and shredding lots of it. I scanned some to my cousin in Berlin for translation as I can't read the old-fashioned Gothic script. On Friday I postponed my dental surgery so it's rescheduled for this Friday. A neighbour brought me some lunch on Thursday which was so kind.I really don't know how things are going now. I suppose that this part isn't an exact science.15

Good morning, fine but chilly here.We met up with Ds2 and fam yesterday for a woodland walk, would have been lovely if it hadn't kept hailstoning! When the sun shone it was quite warm, but we eventually retreated to our cars. They had dil's sister's dog with them, and he is frightened to walk across bridges, so Ds was having to carry him - he's quite a large spaniel and Ds was staggering a bit. There were a few little footbridges over the stream, and unfortunately the path kept leading us over them!I'd taken a small picnic (we never go anywhere without sandwiches and a flask). We have a little camping stove and kettle but the flask water was still almost boiling so we just used it as it was.We were parked side by side so it was easy to pass across food, I'd made some little cakes and we took the biscuit tin, so that plus sandwiches was our lunch. Sat chatting for a while then we all tootled off home. It's a pity our walk was cut short but it was great to see them.I arranged to meet Dil in Newcastle on Tuesday morning which will be a nice change.Nothting planned for today, the forecast's not good anyway.I hope that Gers and her mum have had a quiet night, it's such a sad time for them.Thinking also of Snoozer's Steve, and others who aren't well, Nanny's DH, Nelski, Marie, Poppy and Dumpling, also DP1's dd who is in and out of hospital.Hope everyone has as good a day as they can.Take care folks15

Morning! I mght be going for a nap in a minute, early up is the not the phrase...Doesn't look too bad out there but it's not supposed ot be awful until this afternoon. I showed some of the garden [ mostly the pots] who was boss yesterday and moved some stuff to make more pleasing arrangements. I found two strawberry plants just randomly growing, not planted by me, so they were hoiked out and replanted somewhere useful to me with the other ones in pots. I started evening out the bit of earth by the compost bin and used that to mix with what I would call rubbish compost, for the flowers and a couple of herb plants.I'll do a bit more pottering today and try and work out a meal plan for the rest of the week. It'll be chicken something or other or quiche of some sort. Or both...And a swift sm visit for some coffee, I need a whiteboard to remind me of what things run out. I have got a list on my phone I update regularly but I usually forget something.Hope you're all protected frm the storm today, have a lovely day if you can, if you can't, hugs 'n stuff....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi14

Gers, this is an odd time isn't it, this waiting, you feel almost suspended in time as if it'll never end..It was nice of your neighbour to bring you some lunch, it's practical help when you may not feel you can be bothered to do it yourself.I've thought about you and Mum so much, we all have, I know.15

Morning folks and thanks SCARLET for kicking off. At the moment the sun is shining with not a breath of wind. It's hard to believe horrendous weather is on the way.
A day of doing nothing for me (what's new!) the usual jobs await if I feel so inclined. The big freezer really needs defrosting but it's that blooming cold in the garage I'm hanging fire until it warms up a little bit. I don't know why that one builds up the frost so much quicker than the smaller one. Maybe because I'm in and out of that one more I suppose.
DD and Co have been over at the caravan this weekend doing lots of outdoor jobs. The decking and fencing has been stained. The new shed assembled and already stuffed full. And some outdoor sofas have been delivered and now in place on the decking waiting for some warm sunshine! I am being kept up to date with numerous photos getting WhatsApped. They are staying today as well and then coming back bright and early in the morning to go straight to school. I hope they don't sleep in!
GERS you sound to be living on a knife edge with your DM. It's emotionally draining for you. My thoughts remain with you x
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and those with poorly loved ones. Take care one and all x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Thoughts are with Gers, and wishing her DM a peaceful day x

Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa whilst on here, DS1 still in his pit, DS2 settled and happy.
Bright and sunny start to the day - the calm before the storm!
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken - delicious it was too. Tonight it will be burgers, sweet chilli chicken skewers, onion rings, salad, coleslaw etc.
Today is going to be a chilled day - back to work tomorrow but a short week due to Bank holiday today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thinking of you Gers, I hope your DM is comfortable and you manage to get some rest.
Also thinking of Marie as always and Nelski too.
Nice day yesterday, went for a walk with DD and the little one who slept in her pram for most of the walk, she was tired from her running about with a ball and wearing the cones on her head but enjoyed herself at her football class!
We had a veggie risotto for lunch and didn't really need anything later but did manage a few crackers whilst watching Call the Midwife.
Washing can go on the airer this morning as it's very overcast this morning and heavy rain due later on today. I'm going to take back my new border fork this morning as it snapped yesterday whilst trying to lift a dead fuschia and it's only the second time I've used it.
Hope you all have a peaceful and enjoyable Monday. Take care. XX14 -
Hello all,
Thank you for your good wishes. It seems to be working because Steve has whatsapped this morning to say that he feels the new antibiotics are working, fingers crossed.
I made two bottles of cocktails yesterday, a summer berry concoction with tequila and a lemon and cardamom gimlet with gin. Not for me, for Laura who is writing an article on summer cocktails, they will sit in the fridge until I can get them to her. She said that Esben was very wary of his other grandmother when he met her again, not surprising given that they've only managed to see her about 3 times since he was born but I feel for her. I think he improved after she produced the gifts she had for him.
I need to book a visit to see Steve in a little while, everything else has to revolve around the 3 hours it takes for the visit and travelling. I need to pop up to Lidl for some of their GI bread which I like when I'm low carbing and some milk. Talking about low carbing I had a big fail yesterday as I sat and munched my way through some chocolate.
I will do some sewing, I'm hoping to get the table runner to the stage of binding today.
Gers, we're all supporting you in spirit, take care.15
