Young peoples pay to be abolished

They have lowered the group to Under 18, 18-20, 21-22, to 23+. They have plans to abolish the 23+ in the near future. Do you think this is a good or bad decision the government has made? Impact on business?

You mean young people are going to be made to work without pay? Where did you get that idea?
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
  • Don't that have 'kickstart'? Nowadays I'm sure they will do just fine. (Older workers have nothing! So no sympathy here) I know a 25 year old, who was let go within a year because they were happy to sit there looking at older peers doing more whilst absolutely doing nothing for 6 months. I've no idea why you think they should be paid more. The director said ah aren't they young but to me that means an 18 year-old, fresh out out of school. I had a 16k job last Feb which I am quite sure, 'most young people' would have turned their nose up! In fact for 6 months whilst done by a youngster I am pretty sure they were paid 18.5k ahead of any oldies.

I know tesco pay around £9.30 after 6 months so If your classed in the same job the 18yo get the same as the person who is 50yo with10 years service etc. This to me its totally fair

As with most things - it is a free market and market forces apply

If you want more money, get qualified and change career if needs be

Plenty of jobs out there that pay £25k+

I don't think what the OP is trying to say is that difficult to work out.  Under 25s have been excluded from the 'adult' minimum wage regulations but that has been lowered to those under 23.  Basically those aged 23 to 25 will have a minimum wage uplift from £8.36 to £8.92.  Whether that will mean companies will look to recruit younger people is down to the company.

What it removes is the incentive for minimum wage employers to hire younger people because they are cheaper.  I have no idea if that incentive and those jobs were significant or not.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Minimum wage certainly had an effect on the job market in the past.  My sister-in-law was trying to get back into retail after a break and was actually told by friend who worked in retail management that school leavers were preferred because they were cheaper.

Definitely not company policy at Tesco. Nice balance between old and young.

    Over time they'll age though.
