Can pet insurance company just stop paying for ongoing medication?

Options
We have recently discovered that our 13 year old dog is now supposedly not covered for her heart condition which was diagnosed many years after policy inception!
We took out the Prime Cover with Animal Friends which until recently paid 20% towards her medication following her diagnosis a few years back but we’re now looking at sourcing her medication on line as vets charges are very high!
Before doing that, I’m just wondering if the insurance company can actually stop cover ?

Have they said why she isn't covered? Assuming you had a lifetime policy throughout

     Read your policy document.

Is it a maximum benefit policy ?

With these policies they give 'lifetime ' cover until the maximum has been claimed.

No they haven’t said but we were told by vets that it was because of her age but that’s obviously nonsense!
I’m confused about type of cover as it appears it’s not a lifetime policy but they’ve covered her past 2 years!?
Understand that there’s a £7K annual limit but thought medication would continue to be part of that total on a yearly basis so assuming they allow renewal
Thanks for your help in advance

Thanks Sheramber .... it appears it must be a maximum benefit policy!
My partner phoned but we’re stilll confused as we don’t  know the limit on medication especially as they sent us a letter last year a few months after renewal date to say she was covered for her condition again ! Their admin system needs improvement

I'd go through all paperwork and policy documents to see if you can understand this.

I wasn't able to find a Dog policy online with Animal Friends that has 7k of cover to research what the issue may be.

    You appear to have

Time limited Policy the annual condition limit is 2k. It's the only one I can see which matches your original post.

If I have read the policy first pages right the condition is insured for 365 days across one or more policy periods. But once it has reached that date the condition is likely excluded

Whilst your policy limit is £7k it's only £2k for condition.

Of course that's if this is the policy in question.

  • So confusing how these policies work or don’t for that matter! They’ve claimed to have sent a letter telling us that cover for her heart condition was ending but they didn’t, then we received  another stating they were renewing .... it’s bizarre!
We’re going to complain but just wondered if it’s happened to anyone else?
We had to pay Vets4Pets nearly £650 and settle account before they’d give us further medication that had run out that day!
    Anyway thanks for your comments

Animal friends policies are not always  straight forward as the headline figure is often qualified separately., as in the above post.

That is why the premium can look  cheaper than others.

People tend to only look at the  headline but you should always read the policy document carefully to understand exactly  what cover  if gives.
