Skirting boards & plastering question

Hi everyone,
Happy weekend.
I have skirting boards that I am going to replace.
1) I am going to have skimming (light plastering) done. Should I remove or replace the skirting boards before this is done if I am going to do them?
2) Daft question but who tend to do skirting boards - joiners or carpenters?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, unless removal is part of the quote for your plastering work then you should remove them yourself.
Traditionally joiners work in workshops making things and carpenters work on site, but either trade will do the work for you.0 -
Take the skirting boards off before any plastering is done. Repair any damage to the walls, and make sure the plasterer knows how far down to go. Once the walls have been skimmed, put a thin bead of expanding foam in any gap between floor & wall - If you have a suspended timber floor, it will cut one source of draughts. You may need to knock back lumps of plaster at the base of the wall where the plasterer missed a bit..woodsford said: 1) I am going to have skimming (light plastering) done. Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
