My friend is needing a hip replacement op.  Only 45 she has chronic arthritis and suffered a motorcycle accident yesrs ago

She is on benefits sue to illness
    Mortgage free Completly
Need advice on best way to raise money for operation
    Loan or mortgage please

    Best regards
    Will

Does she want to sell the property and buy somewhere cheaper to then fund the OP ?

If not then I don't see how she can get the money, how would she meet the loan repayments.

Maybe a go fund me page needs to be started.

What has her GP/ or whoever said about managing the pain ?

Has she already found a private hospital/surgeon willing to do it?  There might be good reasons why her NHS consultant doesn't want to do it. Hip replacements don't last forever either, so if she pays to get it done now, will she be able to pay to get it done again in 15-20 years.

Has she tried all the other treatments that have already been offered to her?

The missing part of the story here is why the NHS isn't providing the service?

Hip replacements last 10-15 years, newer ones probably at the longer end. If they are 45 then this isn't a one off for them

Indeed, seems odd they simply said no to someone at 45 if there is a medical reason for it. The NHS site says they can be done on any age, though typically done between 60-80. The fact the replacement will last about 15 years and will likely be done again or even twice more doesn't seem to be a good reason not to do it if it is needed. It may be they said no and offered alternatives that the OP's friend doesn't want or found didn't work e.g. physiotherapy or steroid injections
  • Not sure why there is a problem with the NHS? I had a heart op 5 years ago that will have to be done again in 5 years time, no problems.
Are they getting all the benefits they are entitled to? might be worth checking.
Definately won't get this sort of finance on benefits income.
Downsizing the house might be an option but would have it's own problems with benefits.
