I have to agree that families living in overcrowded accommodation is 'a bit much'. Perhaps OP could make a start by expressing his views next Thursday when he goes to vote. Or he could trust that it'll be sorted out ASAP by the 'levelling up' when we'll all get a palatial flat. 🤣

They could easily have partitioned off part of a room for one of the kids, maybe the oldest, or the parents could sleep in the living room.  Even if they were all sharing, it's hardly a massive issue.  Nothing wrong with two kids sharing (mine did until recently by choice, and one is a pre-teen) so I don't see anything wrong with three sharing either.

I think you'll find that two children can be incredibly noisy too, so even if you did manage to get the family to kick out the child they like least, you'll still hear them... plus you'd probably hear some sobbing due to getting rid of the child.  Probably best just to say nothing.

That's very feasible, especially as the OP says:

The neighbours in question live in a two bedroom flat in the same block as me. The bedrooms are a fine size, not massive but not box rooms and they are a couple and have three kids living there as well.

But even if they haven't, it's not really for the OP to criticise, especially as he says:

I've no doubt there's nothing... "bad" going on in the home

I shared a bed with my sister who was 5 years older than me until I was 10.  My parents slept in the living room.

Then we moved and my sister and I progressed to sharing room.

People donl't always have a choice. Circumstances can dictate.

You maybe have the choice to move to somewhere more amenable.

Until we moved in January we had four children in a three bed house. My daughter had the small room, we had the second bedroom and I it three boys shared the biggest room. When we moved they were 15, 11 and 8. One set of bunks and a single bed. My 15yr old had the bottom bunk and had a set of curtains rigged up so he had privacy. We coped fine, I am sure we were noisy, but just in a day to day family way. We moved because our circumstances changed (big promotion and payrise) but if we hadn't we would still be there, possibly forever.

I live in a 2 bed house with 2 kids and I'm accidently pregnant so I will be having a third child here!

However, our house downstairs is bigger than my mums 3 bed home as shes got the garage as part of her house and we have a conservatory. Upstairs the girls share the big room and the baby will be in our room until we move.

I am not sure if we will buy or rent next time, I am trying to save and see what happens over the next year or so, we could rent a bigger 3 bed house now but dont want to... can you imagine OP? People choosing to live in 'cramped' conditions 😱

Our current home is in a lovely area, the kids are regularly playing outside on the green areas with the other neighbour hood kids and we are surrounded by fields and a park. I suppose everyone has different priorities and seeing as none of us really spend time in our bedrooms except to sleep our home situation suits us just fine atm.  I'm sure we make a normal amount of noise opening the door and closing it a lot when the kids go outside... and we have 2 cats and 1 dog!! I bet your glad your not our neighbour ;)

One of my Grandmothers (still alive) growing up shared a 4 bed semi with her 10 siblings plus both parents. She even says they were lucky to be given a house that size by the council. Prior to that they privately rented a  terraced 5 bed house but shared with a widow and her 2 sons as well as the rent wasn't affordable otherwise. She didn't even have her own bed let alone a bedroom.

My friend with 3 kids in a 3 bed house has turned her dining room into a downstairs bedroom for one of them, by the strategic placing of tall Ikea bookcases.

As said, it's none of your business how many their kids to bedrooms ratio.

This thread has reminded me why I just love living afloat!

When the neighbours irritate, we just slip our mooring and sail to pastures new.

My Dad had 10 siblings, so there were 13 people crammed into a two-bed property. As there were two rooms downstairs, one was used as a bedroom. Boys in one room, girls in another, parents in the third. They weren't big rooms, either. No bathroom so it was a tin bath in the kitchen and an outside privy!
  • I see the thread has become a 'who had the biggest family in the smallest home' competition.
  • Hopefully they're high on the list for social housing due to being overcrowded.  Then they can get away from their unpleasant neighbours!
Our local authority deem a 2 bed LHA property (in our case a flat) as suitable for accomodating 5 adults. 1 adult being 2 children.

In this case it could be a couple with 6 kids or a single parent with 8 kids.

Trust me, the flat wasn't small, but it wasn't that big!!
I'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.
