Getting a quote for car repairs

My car was hit at low speed and caused a bit of damage. I took it in to my garage for an assessment before deciding whether to go through insurance or not and basically just received 'parts: £xxx, paint:£xxx, etc'. I kinda expected more detail than this to allow me to make an informed decision, am I expecting too much? There's no explanation as to whether the car is safe for me and my 2 young children, what structural damage there is and what exactly needs replacing. Is this normal? I don't feel like there's enough information to decide for me or anyone else to pay for this.

Surely the insurance-or-not decision is a simple financial one? And that's what you DO have.

If they didn't say it was unsafe, I think you can take it as read that it's safe. Let's see some pics of the damage.

Did you ask them to say if it was safe?

You seem to have got what you asked for a quote for the repair. It will give you no more than that.
