O/S Daily Thursday 29 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light and dry underfoot, there's some broken cloud so we might get some sun.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was HM chicken and mushroom pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy - no LO's menfolk had 2nd helping. Tonight we'll be having gammon, egg and potato gratin/potatoes of some sort.
Now on days' off from work, with the added bonus of Bank Holiday Monday so not back to work until Tuesday then only 2 days to do. I have the normal "to do" list, so will get cracking with that I have a load whirring around in the machine already - hoping that will be done before I go out so I can get another load in and this one on the line.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Whilst yesterday was a 'hanging about waiting' day today is 'up and at 'em'. The cleaner is coming so I've already been round emptying waste bins and putting things away. A district nurse is calling round before noon to check on DM and then I'm off to collect DM's friend from a funeral. He'll come here to visit DM and I'll take the chance to nip out to shop and takeaway rubbish.Things are calmer here, once again DM has moved away from the edge, it's a rollercoaster of emotions.Anyway...my thoughts are with all our poorlies. Poppy, it was so lovely to see you posting the other day.Happy Thursday to all.12

Good morning, it's sunny and hailstoning here! Blooming cold as well. Thanks for starting NMLC, hope work is going all right.Glad things have settled a bit Gers - what a time this is for you, as you say, a roller coaster of emotions, not knowing what each day will bring, but you cope regardless. Hope Mum enjoys her friends' visitDH has had two bad nights with shoulder and upper back pain, but I bought him some stronger pain killers and I also ordered a heat pad from B*ots which I hope to pick up today. Last night was better for him (and me) with the painkillers anyway, not that I needed painkillers., Yesterday I came downstairs to find him asleep in the reclining chair, he'd been there for a few hours. He said it was less painful to sleep in a half sitting up position.Nothing planned for today except keeping an eye on Dgs for a couple of hours while his mum takes dgd to the dental hospital in Newcastle. She's hoping this will be the last in a series of visits.Thinking of our poorly people, and hope everyone has a good day. Take care folks.14

Morning all! Lovely and sunny but very BRRRR!! Zero degrees so far and my hands still haven't warmed up from taking OH to work. He might have a day off tomorrow so big lie in if I can help it for me. Cats are both curled up asleep which is where I'd like to be but I had a less painful, if shorter, sleep on the sofa. Breakfast and shower in a bit. And my knives are now super sharp and I will have to be careful when using them. The lawnmower also is nice and shiny sharp so instead of chewing the grass it might actually cut it. But it's not bad for a secondhand mower that I've had for two years. I love a petrol mower but they're just so fiddly after a winter in a garage, lots of priming and changing petrol and cleaning of sparkplugs , checking oil and yanking and yanking the pull cord.Whih reminds me, my extra long extension lead end is knackered so I need to attach a new plug socket to it at some point. And get a cartridge or some string stuff for the strimmer. I am looking forward to no grass to mow because when the house is done, I will show that garden who's boss. And I ain't having no stinkin' grass.Today is a quiet one [ quelle surprise!!] with someone fetching something I'm giving away, hopefully. I'm also on a diet for the now so no more pasties! Ouch...But after a sneaky weigh this morning it's looking good. As long as I get to my belly being smaller than my boob I'll be happy.Gers, I'm so sorry for what you're both going through. It's a soul destroying time so I'll just send virtual hugs. Monna, there is such a thing. It's called a cleaner
Nanny, I would say try and tire yourself out so you're not thinking but I think that's a bit redundant considering you are whirling away everywhere...Hugs for you too. And on that note, Shower time! It's like Hammer time but with less dancing...Stay sane y'all.....

Gers, my thoughts are with you and your mum.
Steve is back in hospital. We've been on a bit of a knife edge the last few days and decided to ring the haematology helpline last night for advice and they told him to go in. He's on iv and oral antibiotics now - his immune system is practically non-existent so that's a bit of a worry. Thankfully they seem to have very few covid patients now. I can go to see him after he's been in for 48 hours by arrangement.
I'm tired, it was nearly 1am when I got home and I woke at 5. I'll probably go back to bed later unless I have to go down to Laura's again. Brian had his first vaccine on Tuesday and was feeling ill yesterday, Laura has college. I'm just waiting to hear how he is.

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the new thread. GERS my heart goes out to you. I have been on that rollercoaster and know just how draining it is on the emotions. Hope today is a better day. My thoughts are with you both.
We managed our bus ride to Skipton in blue sky and sunshine all the way. But by the time we got there it had reverted back to winter and there was a nithering wind blowing. We dodged in and out of a few cs with a quick browse of the market on our way up the main street, timing our arrival at the Black H for opening time! We got a table on the terrace but, despite being out of the wind, it still felt a bit chilly! The lovely pie was still on special but sadly it didn't stay hot long outdoors. Nevertheless it was enjoyed, along with a bottle of wine, and a good old natter. I don't know if it was the cold or what but my ailing legs were so painful by the time I got home and I couldn't get myself comfortable all evening.
After two days of gallivanting I am back to being a recluse now for the foreseeable. So today will be earmarked for a bathroom and kitchen clean and maybe, just maybe, the upstairs windows will finally get cleaned. If the forecast is right there will be no sitting outside reading so I have no excuse. Other than idleness!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies and porrly loved ones. Thinking of GERS and DM, MARIE, NELS and now SNOOZER's STEVE back in hospital. As well as NAN worrying about tomorrow. It seems everyone has worries at the moment. Take care one and all x

Morning all chilly but sunny here this morning today we will carry on with the loft i managed to get DH to part with a couple of bits yesterday and today we will carry on I am working in the kitchen and utility room rationalising everything and boxing up what can go to the new house I would like to clean as many of the cupboards as possible before moving day so that's another job done . I am never doing this again and I am in the lucky position of having the new house already so it is so much easier.

Morning all .
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need especially snoozer and gers.
Dry and bright here which is lovely after a full day of rain yesterday.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.Chin up, Titus out.13 -
Good morning everyone
Specially big hugs are being sent to all of you especially Gers and her mum and Snoozer and Steve.
I am feeling much better today as I didn't get up until 7am and my legs are hurting much less. The nurse came and changed the dressings yesterday and I didn't have to be peeled off the ceiling this time so I can officially say I am on the mend.
I am still pondering the best way how to declutter my house. Ideally I want to sell the stuff that's good enough to fund some new carpets and paint. I am hoping the car boot sales will start up soon as that would be ideal.
I am in charge of cooking today and I think we have some lamb mince in the fridge so I will make a shepherd's pie. It is a bit drizzly here today so that will be a nice comforting dish, especially with roast parsnips and carrots. I will make it in a minute while I have the energy.
I have spent the past couple of days making cards and I have just sent off a load to my friend. She rang me yesterday asking for some for her grandchildren and her sons. The grandchildren bit was easy but I really struggle making cards for men. I will put my thinking cap on later and see what dies I have that will be appropriate. I also want to find some fluffy yarn to make a teddy bear. I bought the pattern for it and then the yarn went walkabout so I will have to pull out some boxes later to find it.
Right, i hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx14 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here but still very cold, thinking back to last year it was so hot at this time that OH and I were out on the bikes most days and having a bbq most evenings, how different this year is !!
Wrok meeting went well yesterday although we had to sit outside of a cafe so it was very cold indeed, but work have said basically it is up to me when I feel able to go back, they have furloughed me for May and June and we can discuss again then, but she said the furlough scheme runs till end of Sept and then I still have holiday and sick time I can use so no rush to go back until I feel completly better which is great and a big relief, they have been so good with me and I am thankful for that.
I will take the hounds to the park later and hopefully see my friend, we are both trying to lose a bit of weight so are encouraging each other and swapping tips etc.
Dinner tonight will be fresh pasta with some fish which I think is sea bass which has been lurking in the freezer, I shall fry off some onions and chilli and with the pasta and grill the fish and place on top we have had this beore and its lovely.
Usual house jobs this morning and maybe a rest this afternoon.
I had a lovely phone call with our Nels yesterday it was lovely to put a voice to the name, we put the world to rights for 1/2 hr or so it was lovely to speak with her x
Gers I hope mum has a more comfortable day xx
Snoozer I hope they can make Steve feel a bit better xx
Nan good luck for tomorrow xx
Have good days all xx13
