Medallion Guarantee Stamp needed - does anyone have any experience?

I am executor for my my father, who left his shares to my brother. The shares were with Computerserve in Jersey so when at long last probate was granted, I sent off the transfer form, grant of probate etc, and waited. And waited. After about 5 weeks I rang them to be told that the shares are now with Computershare US and there is no sign of the probate form etc.
Now I find that to get the shares transferred I need to have a Medallion Guarantee Stamp, which is available from a few places in the UK for a cost of around £300 (and the money from the will has already been distributed.)
But I have neither passport nor photo driving licence which they require, so apparently no-one can give me this magic stamp.
Now what?

Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.

Have you read the previous info on the forum, some quite old but might be useful.
Here's a search:

(btw why are you bumping your own thread, less than a day old?)0 -
As a warning to other executors - dont distribute all the money before the will has been fully settled. If extra expenses turn up later and you cant get repayment from the people to whom you distributed the money then you as executor may be liable to pay the costs from your own pocket.
Presumably you have talked to all the Medallion Stamp suppliers to see what other proof of identity they will accept?3 -
Bumping was accidental, I tried to edit slightly and it got reposted, sorry. Yes I have read the old info, thanks.
I am in contact with a couple of suppliers, but they all want photo proof of id, which I just don't have. I can't be the only one! Not everyone drives, travels abroad or borrows money. I could not process probate myself because Experian could not find me, as I haven't borrowed anything, which was the back up if no passport etc.
As to who pays this infuriating expense, it will have to be sorted between my brother and I, I suppose .Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.0 -

If you got a recent photo certified by a solicitor (Commissioner for Oaths / Public Notary), would that be accepted?
