we are buying a chain free property and are simultaneously exchanging and completing. The agreed date has been known since the middle of last week and we are exchanging on Friday.
So far we have received no completion statement and enquiries to the solicitor say they're doing it now. surely this is ridiculously late? We need bank details etc to send the deposit to which will require a trip to the bank during a work dinner break as its far above the daily allowed limit online.

I'd be on the phone to them at this point! You want to do that transfer today really - or tomorrow at the very latest.0

we only have an hour dinner to be able to go to the bank to transfer the money... the whole thing has been a shambles, solicitors leaving mid way through the case etc. Starting to get concerned now though.pinkteapot said:I'd be on the phone to them at this point! Surely you know approximately how much you're contributing, based on the purchase price, mortgage amount and stamp duty? You can set up a CHAPS payment for that, and then when you get a completion statement through, you can settle any overpayment or shortfall via an online payment?Nile_E_Coyote said:we are buying a chain free property and are simultaneously exchanging and completing. Also some banks will let you arrange a CHAPS payment via phone.1

The solicitors will be dependent on receiving up to date information from your current lender.
Cut-off for CHAPs is around lunch time. Worth checking to ensure the transfer is made tomorrow.0

Bank text me on Monday saying they will release funds to the solicitor on Thursday.Thrugelmir said:The solicitors will be dependent on receiving up to date information from your current lender.
Surely they'll have had all information now? I'm just genuinely perplexed on what takes so long.0

Otherwise I guess you just have to chase - might be they're pending some info, or might be they're not getting the urgency to complete on Fri.0

I'm sure it will come but they better get the urgency as our mortgage offer expires next Friday...0

Didn't you pay by bank transfer for the searches etc? If so, you would have the solicitor's client account details, and your client reference number.
You could phone the solicitor's office and say that you want to check that the account details you have are correct. They will be very used to this, as most solicitors recommend that you phone to check account details before making a payment to them.
As others suggest, you can send the approx amount in advance, and 'top it up' with an online payment when you get the statement.

Isn't it absolutely ridiculous that solicitors can behave this way with apparent impunity? Happens so often and is so stressful for clients, yet it won't even interrupt their golf.0
