I take it you don't currently have medical insurance.  If that's the case any pre-existing conditions will normally be excluded from cover which means that the hernia and the undiagnosed condition would not be covered.  If you do already have cover you need to check the t&c for the process of being referred for private treatment.
  • Yeah I thought that the hernia would not be included but was unsure about the undiagnosed condition as it essentially hasn’t got a label yet

No but you will be asked about investigations & treatment, diagnosed or not and they wont be covered.

Insurance covers you from the risk of a loss... if you are suffering symptoms then this will not be covered by the policy because this isn't a "risk" but a certainty. Insurers aren't stupid and know people have a problem and then buy a policy and "forget" to mention the problem and so have minimum wait periods etc.

You cannot go to the bookies and bet on yesterday's horse race.

If you already had the insurance and started suffering symptoms then for most things the insurer will want a letter/email from your GP saying you need to see a consultant and then the insurer covers the cost of diagnosis and treatment.

Some work policies cover pre existing issues, have you medical insurance available from there ?
