Energy Switch problem
Currently trying to switch energy suppliers via Uswitch, from Scottish Power to Eon Next. Everything seemed to be going OK until Scottish Power objected to the gas switch. checked the common reasons & im not in debt, theres a credit on the account & not a new housemove. Called EON who say call Scottish Power to resend information, Called SP who say they gave the correct information to start with & nothing on my account to indicate a problem. Called EON back to inform them of call to SP. Checked back on new EON account a couple of days later and a gas meter serial number has appeared except it is not the one installed in my house. Contacted EON about it who say they will restart switch, after a few days of no change i recontacted Scottish Power, who say they sent the correct info & gave me the MPRN number. Called EON again with the MPRN and they checked and confirmed the meter shown is wrong but there wasnt anything they can do.
Can anyone suggest my next course of action? I am due to complete the switch over early may and i dont want to start paying a gas bill that isnt mine from day 1.

You're not switching in May unless the discrepancy is sorted. You've given the answer above.Get onto Scottish Power PDQ asking them to correct the meter number, sending a photo if you have to.0

I have, twice. Told them my meter number, thats the one they sent to EON they say along with the MPRN thats on my bill. Electric meter matches on EON account, gas one doesnt. EON say get SP to send correct info, SP say they sent it and so on...and back and forth...

Changing a meter serial number has to be actioned by your present supplier. The meter serial number is linked to your MPRN (for gas) and to your address, and this information is held on a quasi-Governmental database. Your present supplier will need to confirm that it has received confirmation that the database has been updated from the Meter Point Administrators before you can initiate another switch. This process can take a few weeks as passing a revised meter serial number to a new supplier will just not work. Incorrect linking of meter serial numbers to MPAN/MPRNs is all too common on new builds.quebert said:I have, twice. Once you have confirmation that the database has been corrected you need to check that there has been no corruption of your meter readings as someone else has been passing meter readings for your meter serial number and vice versa.

I dont see why i would need the serial number changing unless i get a new gas meter. The house is 120 years old and current meters have been installed since 2004. Previous supplier switches have gone without problem. The meter serial number in my house has been on all my bills for the last 17 years since installation and has been billed correctly for this property.0

If you have previously switched suppliers (as opposed to previous occupants doing so) do you have proof of this? Do you still have access to your online accounts? They have to allow you visibility of your bills for 2 years after you leave them. Do you have any paper bills from previous suppliers showing MPAN/MPRN numbers? If you do, this might be a place to start.
If you can prove previous switches succeeded with no issues with these meter details, you surely should be able to ascertain which supplier has the wrong reference number(s)

Does the meter serial number shown on your statement agree with the serial number on your actual meter?quebert said:I dont see why i would need the serial number changing unless i get a new gas meter. Rang Uswitch, told them about the wrong meter, gave them my MPRN and gas meter serial number. The switch has now been cancelled pending a restart, so see if that solves the problem.0
