Rejected for SEISS 4

Hi, I guess I'm not surprised but I've been rejected for SEISS 4. I was trading as a limited company until November 2019 when my partner and I closed the company. I continued doing the same work from that point as self-employed. As I work in the exhibition graphics and conference graphics industry we saw a decline in work as the pandemic started to take hold, much earlier than the official first lockdown. Non the less, I still was able to bill over £2500 before lockdown 1 shut the industry down almost completely. It seems I've been rejected because my other income, earnings from my company, for that financial year is greater than my self-employed income which is certainly no surprise considering it includes most of the pre-pandemic period and from less than half the year. Having been unable to claim any other SEISS grants because I haven't been trading long enough, this seems a real kick in the teeth. Have I been treated unfairly or is this others experience of this 4th grant?

Mark

It is how the rules work. Similar issues arose for SEISS 1 to 3 for people who started trading in 2018/19 after leaving employment (whether in their own company or otherwise).

This is perfectly normal and was the same for the first three grants too.

I suppose if it as any consolation you wouldn't have received much even if you qualified.
  • Yes, that's what I figured, thanks for the replies.

Hi Mark, if you have expenses such as Rent, Rates, Utilities, etc you might be able to apply for a grant from the council, LRSG for business ratepayers or ARG for non-business ratepayers, all funded by the government, check your local council website for details
