I've been quoted two very different prices for a loft hatch installation and need to know what people think!
First person came round and said due to the way our ceiling joists are positioned he would need to do structural work and for a wooden ladder and hatch would cost us £1050 or £650 for metal. Apparently metal costs less as needs less structural work as it's smaller?
Second person came round and sent me a quote of £380 for wooden ladder installation.
Both have been recommended on Facebook by people but how can they be so different?! I asked the second cheaper joiner about whether it would need structural work or support and he didn't think so. He mentioned that the type of plaster could be damaged but that due to us having wallpaper on the ceilings (don't ask) if it did anything should be contained until we get it replastered.
Am I being majorly ripped off here? Hoping to get a third quote this week so I'm going to see what they say too but any advice would be appreciated.
Edit - both are local joiners recommended by local people with good reviews etc so don't feel like they'd want to jeopardise they're businesses by quoting incorrectly or doing a quick job.
