Grant 4 approved after initial rejection

Just thought give some hope to people who have been rejected for SEISS 4. Mines was initially rejected because of late filling. I explained it was no fault of mine it was there fault I couldn't get tax return in on time(long story) .Theve now over turned decision. 😁

To be helpful you might need to elaborate on the reason for the late filing, also were you late, but within the extended SEISS window, or late and after the extended SEISS filing window?

The OP started a previous thread on this subject back in March.

From that, it appears they have a very specific reason for not filing on time (not being told they had to file a paper tax return despite being in touch with HMRC over not being able to file online for several months) and this thread is potentially going to give a lot of people false hope that their late filing will be disregarded.

OP, you should have just updated the old thread.  At least that way anyone reading it would also be able to clearly read the background for why you were late and hopefully be less inclined to see this as a glimmer of hope that they'll get their rejection overturned.
  • I filled return on March 8th. Couldn't do it online due too HMRC not allowing me to do online due too some financial difficultIes last year. I had to do it by paper. They never sent paper even though I'd been phoning for three months to try sort it out. Hope that clears that up.

All I'm doing is telling people they can get decision reviewed even though I've been told on this site from various members the there is absolutely no chance of a review.

Everybody is aware they can have their cases reviewed.  It's called an appeal.  You gave no information in this thread other than that you were late and it was overturned.  The overwhelming majority of people are not going to be in such an incredibly niche situation as you are, and are potentially going to think that they have a chance when they do not.  If you had just updated the original thread, people could have at least easily seen what your situation was and been much less likely to get their hopes up.

The vast majority of people on this site who are late have no chance of having the decision overturned.

Hi, I'm sorry that your attempts to spread a bit of good news have just met with grumpy responses.

Don't let it deflate you, I know you meant well!

Thanks for trying to give some folk a bit of hope, I for one appreciate it although am not eligible for the grant myself.

Maybe you could, as everyone keeps saying, update your old thread? But I think people's reactions here are a bit disappointing and hope you don't let it spoil your day!

    Thanks again. x

    Thank you.
This thread highlights the fact that it is very helpful to be able to lay the blame at HMRC's door for the late filing, as opposed to, for example, laying it at your agent's door (where the appropriate course of action is to take it up with the agent).

Only reason you got it overturned was because HMRC was negligent.  Many others , just did not submit on time and should take responsibility. (because HMRC will not lol )

I'm not really sure how they're "disappointing"?

I'm happy the OP got their decision overturned but as I've said twice already giving a very vague "I was late, it wasn't my fault and I got it overturned" description of events is potentially going to give many other people the false impression that, well, if you file late and it isn't your fault (is it ever?) then fire off an appeal and BAM, you get your grant. The OP had an incredibly niche situation that just is not going to be applicable to the overwhelming majority of people whose filings were late.

If they had updated the original thread, or explained their original situation in this thread, that confusion wouldn't happen.  Although I suspect it'd be a lot less impressive sounding.
