Our garden is east facing.  After a lot of trial and error, we've had it re-designed - partly to make gardening easier for me for when age and creakiness sets in, and partly to create 2 small (ish) patios.  One for morning, the other for afternoon/evening.

We get the sun in the morning and afternoon ,i have asked the local council to remove /cut back /take 15 ft off the top of the trees behind our property ,all of the people on our street agree but the answer from the council is - NO MONEY ,NO STAFF ! i even asked if we could tackle the problem ourselves ,no was the answer due to health and safety !!!

Thinking of what Silvertabby says, I've had 2 front gardens that are East facing and the sun comes over twice a day.
    Morning and late afternoon.
Useful as in these hot summers we get, plants thrive with the extra shade during midday.
And yes, I too have several seating areas depending on where the sun hits at certain times of year.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

It will depend on the shade from the other house. My front garden and therefore living room and bedroom are East facing. I have sun first thing and it's still on the road end mid afternoon, depending on time of year, the sun is higher in the sky and hitting more of the garden . It's never totally shaded. My living room and bedroom are not cold. The living room is only dark on the dark dank days in winter that never seem to get light.
If your question about an orangery is to give you more light, I'd be wary of making the room it adjoins darker?! Also heating it in winter.
