I do have a property to sell but can't because it is tenanted,....

Oh you can, you can, no problem selling a tenanted property: Price might be a bit off... Come on Dave, you surely know the 1449 Leases Act??  Means tenant is protected through sale of his home or lands, tenancy continues with new owner, same terms.  Good old King James II (Scots kings, known as. Fiery Face, Seumas II Stiùbhairt)

    The relevant wording is

    ### Item it is ordanit for the sauftie and fauour of the pure pepil that labouris the grunde that thai and al vthiris that has takyn or sal tak landis in tym to !!!!!! fra lordis and has termes and yeris thereof that suppose the lordis sel or analy thai landis that the takaris sall remayn with thare takis on to the ische of thare termes quhais handis at euir thai landis !!!!!! to for sic lik male as thai tuk thaim of befoir .    ####

(MSE Censorship seems to think some scots is rude..)
    .
  • Imagine if you have a mortgaged property in GBP and then overnight, your job pays you in Scot £. The exchange rate would determine whether it's more expensive or not.

If I.Scot continued to use GBP then you might expect higher taxation as the gov wouldn't be able to pay debts in it's own currency so comes with a premium.

At the moment people from England can't move here fast enough and houses here sell in days.  So those buyers are not perceiving an issue.  Either they don't see independence as a real possibility, or perhaps they are remainers hedging their bets on getting back into the EU?

Perhaps the people moving back are simply Scottish citizens by birth.

Sunlit uplands, sunlit uplands. Just as the English government promised.

Scottish property prices have been rising quite strongly, someone must know something. A crying shame as I sold one house Feb 2020 and another house September 2020 up there, would have made more had I delayed. (Selling due to age-73- and ill health).

NB It's possible to be an SNP member living in England.

     Slàinte mhath!

I know people who have moved to Scotland partly because they hope for independence. Had we not been tied to vulnerable relatives, we'd have been seriously considering moving up there when we last moved, same reason. I think Scotland will be more popular, not less, if independence goes through.
