This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
Gers - hugs to you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry and sunny, bit of a nip in the air but that will warm up I'm sure.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my brekkie. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy
Dinner last night was the different types of grain, veg rice, chicken in a sweet chilli sauce - very nice for something different - although the grains were ok but not all that flavourful - they were packet mixes so may have to investigate using different recipe. Lunch today will be roast pork, we have a couple of jobs to do this morning then we'll be having a chilled afternoon before returning to work tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting Gers. It's fine and dry here, chilly though. We went out for a walk yesterday, it was lovely, through woodland, there was hardly anyone else about, and it's a popular walk. It was early though.I started making 2 cushion covers for 2 stools that we have in the kitchen, one of the cushions is circular so I've picked up a few tips from Youtube for that one. The other is oblong so I'm just making a simple box cover with a zip in the side. I 'll finish them today. No other plans, except maybe going out for some bread and spuds, i should have done this yesterday on the way home from our walk. No matter, I can walk up to the little Sains nearby.Good to see Nanny posting, hope you're feeling better Nan.Thoughts to Gers and her mum, Dumpling, and others who aren't well.Take care folks13

Morning folks.Seems to be bright outside, hope it stays that way.The supermarkets yesterday were very busy, I think it was down to the lovely weather and it being pay day weekend.DM is still eating very little though I'm pushing the fluids. Her crossword friend came so they sat quietly almost finishing the cryptic one. Then DM asked him to leave (about two hours early) and then fell asleep.I spent the afternoon delving into a couple of cupboards pulling everything out to sort. Some things have gone back with others now in bags.Today will be more of the same I suspect. I'm making DM her favourite lunch, fennel with lemon, in the hope of her eating more than two teaspoons worth. My thoughts are with all our poorlies, miss your postings, and those looking after poorlies.Happy Sunday to all.13

Morning All
The sun is yet to shine but it's dry and bright. That's 2 nights I've got up to look for the meteor shower and 2 nights it's been too cloudy, never mind I'll wait for the next one!
I started to power wash the decking yesterday but gave up when the neighbours had family round, didn't want to disturb their chat although Mr next door is supposed to be self isolating but it seems that family don't count! I transferred the tomato seedlings into bigger pots and sorted a couple of other plants then sat and finished the book I was reading - The Secret Life of Bees - I really enjoyed it.
Didn't go shopping yesterday, planted the pea and bean seeds at the allotment instead, seemed a shame to waste a day of sunshine but I really must go today, the cupboards are bare!
Hope your DM eats a little more today Gers, we'll have to meet for a coffee soon.
Good to see you posting Nanny.
Hugs to the poorlies and carers. Thinking of Marie as always.
Enjoy Sunday, take care. XX13 -
Good morning everyone, sunny here forecast sun all day and quite warm.
We arrived home from Wales Saturday lunchtime and managed to unpack the van, also stood outside and had a great chat with 2 pairs of the neighbours, it was lovely. Both of the ladies are retired hairdressers and one kindly gave me some tips on how to style my new ultra short hairstyle.
Yesterday was a complete write off for me, I had either picked up a bug, or eaten something that violently disagreed with me, it was as if I was trying to vomit the soles of my boots, eventually I remembered I had some anti-emetic tablets and took 1. I must be on the mend I managed a whole cup of tea this morning while watching a beautiful sunrise on a live cam of Max out in the Lake District, if you love Springer Spaniels and the area around Keswick these are a real treat.
Hopefully a small amount of much needed housework and a gentle potter in the garden, some climbers to tie up. Rather fancy a little trip to the garden centre or Morries later, OH will be cycling, so I could potter around to my hearts content.
Sending virtual hugs and spoons to all that need them, Gers thank you for the new thread, it must be so hard for you and her friend watching your DM fade, so pleased that her breathing has improved. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)13 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS for the new daily. I hope you manage to tempt your DM into eating a little bit more today. But as the Doctor told me when Bob was so poorly, it's surprising how little you can survive on when you are not using up any energy.
It sounds as though this could be the last of the nice sunny days sat reading in the garden (except Wednesday when it was brr!) as the forecast for the coming week doesn't sound too clever. Yesterday turned out lovely, despite the forecast of cloud, and I had another afternoon on my new seat. But, as suspected, I had the lawnmowers and power tools buzzing away in the background, as is the norm on a weekend!
No plans for today, If the sun shines I shall sit outside again. If it doesn't I shall tackle a few neglected jobs and watch some snooker. Probably more of the latter than the former!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies and poorly loved ones. Thinking of MARIE and NELS and hoping we will hear from them soon. Take care one and all and be safe x

Morning, hugs if you need one........
Off on a jolly this morning to the local nursery to see what plants they have, its getting towards time to plant up the big pots and also the hanging baskets. I have a budget for them.
Quiet day yesterday, some of the tomato plants went off to their new home in the morning, another 4 will go with the cleaner tomorrow, whats left are ours, its too early to plant them out. I looked at my acer, its pot bound, so need to put it in a bigger pot. I need to go round the garden before Friday and mark the plants we need to split and plant further up the garden. I also need to pull some more rhubarb for a dessert for tonight and also to freeze the excess.
Roast chicken for supper with all the trimmings, its what they call a chicken crown, so plenty for tomorrow too and the bones for the stock pot, have a yen to do leek and potato soup so can use the stock for that.10 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here but still cold, we did not have our BBQ in the end yesterday as the wind was biting, I had already made coleslaw and pasta salad so we cooked some burgers indoors and had the salads with them very nice too !!
OH took our little (Jack Russel sized) pup out for a walk yesterday and she was set upon by a massive German Shepherd its lady owner was useless and did nothing to help, luckily this dog had a muzzle on otherwise it could have been a very different story, OH had to physically pull the other dog off which was snarling and trying to bite the lady did nothing, OH lost his temper with her and im sure she learnt some new words !! she just stood there crying our poor pup was bowled over and pinned down by this massive thing and was shaking and in shock, it makes me so mad she should not let that dog off the lead or walk it in a secure field
Today we will go for a ride out to get some asparagus there is a place about 20 mins away that grows and sells it, it would have been picked this morning and is always lovely and fresh we will have some tonight with a steak and mushrooms.
I have stripped the beds this morning and got them on a hot wash they can go on the line while we are out, OH will remake the beds later, dw needs emptying and that will do for today.
Thinking of Nels and her poorly paws xxx
Gers I hope mum manages a bit more food today xx
Thinking of Marie as always xxx
Have good days all xx14 -
Morning all, it's sunny but with a cold wind blowing, don't know if I will be doing anything out in the garden, not even reading if it doesn't calm down.... I'll see later. Thanks Scarlett and Camelot, the black dog seems to have left me but is still trailing around behind me somewhere. As long as it stays there I'll be ok, although Mr Fix It has his oncology review on Friday, not looking forward to that one bitYesterday I was doing quite well with my tasks until I somehow dropped a casserole lid on my foot, butterfingers ! I'll never make a juggler 🤣 Boy did I hop a bit lot ! Nothing broken but I'm limping a bit and my big toe is starting to go black and blue. Luckily I didn't smash the lid, it sort of bounced and spun Good job it didn't break as it's the last man standing, I broke the other one last year in exactly the same way but forgot to put my foot in the way that time !Anyway today I have started the dw up and I want to dust and hoover through downstairs as we have guests arriving for breakfast tomorrow, the DGC yay ! The last time they were inside the house was September 2020 😲. We'll take them to school and then go over the van with the mended drawers.Right enough waffling from me. Hugs to the poorly ones and their carers and anyone having problems with daily life.RedRuby I hope pup is ok after his ordeal.Gers hope DM picks up, it must be very hard not be able to do anything to help her. Special hugs to you both.Bella sorry I forgot to say well done on the house sale, hope it goes through ok.Take care all, stay safe.nan xx

Hi all,Lovely day again but a cool breeze.DH fancied a bbq yesterday for tea but once we lost the sun in the back it was a bit too chilly. My brother rang and said they were taking their DGS to our park if I fancied a walk.Seeing as I haven't seen my SiL for almost a year I jumped at the chance & we had a nice afternoon sat on the grass watching him play on the playground, then went for an ice cream to take out from the cafe. DH didn't come but stayed to work out an invoice for his latest customer while it was quiet.I've got a turkey joint for tea, one of those in a foil tray you just bung in the oven so we'll do that with roasties and veg , trifle for afters.Hugs for the poorlies, Nannys toe , RRs pup and anyone else I've missed.Enjoy the sun x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'.
