New Building - how long does it take from first fix to handing over the keys

Hi,
Quick question..
Does anyone know how long it takes for a house to be ready to handover when the building is at first fix stage?
The reason i am asking is that we have bought a new house through bellway and we already told our landlord that we would vacate the house by the 31st of May.
Bellway says completion date is sometime in May (no specific date)
And we are kind of scared that we will not have enough time to move out and move in properly. Or actually worst case scenarios have no house at all for a few days.
When we have shown interested in buying the house last September(!!) they have told us March. In October when we exchanged contracts it was changed to 16th of April.. Now its just May....
Any ideas/opinions would be much appreciated
Thank you

I'd keep on the right side of you LL and ask if you can continue on a one-month rolling contract.fapb48 said:Hi,

And keep talking to Bellway, I doubt they would have such high a tolerance around completion dates in normal times. They should however let you know when you can move in within 2 weeks of completion. No man is worth crawling on this earth.

the biggest problem now is that we believe the house is already rented to new tenants

Unfortunately you may have to find short term accommodation and put your belongings into storage. The builder hasn't given anything other than a rough estimate of completion date for the build and, once complete, there will almost certainly be snagging issues you pick up when viewing the property before final handover.

It is going to be an uncomfortable and unduly expensive existence for a while but try and pin Bellway down to a date and then keep that in mind as D-day. You will be surprised how quickly time flies and it will be a dim and distant memory once you're ensconced into your new home.fapb48 said:

You may be interested to know that when I bought my first home (also a new build) that the sales team would not get their bonus if feedback was not consistently 9 or 10/10. Not that I would suggest a revenge tactic, but its handy to know how the world works sometimes. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
