Smart meter question

I've been talked in to getting smart meters fitted by Octopus - electric and gas
I assume that I will have to find spare power sockets for 2 meters ?
What happens if I don't leave the actual display units (S ?) powered up 24/7 ?
Do they "catch up" with data or will it affect my readings ?

The meters are on the wall and do not required mains sockets.
Your IHD toy doesn't have to be plugged in; it's use is entirely optional.  Whether you use it won't affect your meter readings or your bill (unless you see it's too expensive and then use less energy).
  • You will need a single socket for the In House Display. The electricity meter replaces the existing meter and it is powered by the electricity that flows through it at no cost to you. The gas meter is battery powered (10 to 15 year life). It you decide to put the IHD in a drawer the meters will still send data at no cost to you.

As has been already stated the “smart meters” just replace the existing meters and require no additional sockets, the in home display device which connects to the smart meters require a single plug connection, but that device is just for your information only and doesn’t need to be used. Your actual meters will upload readings regardless.
