Will they even bother starting the car?

They're interested in body damage and whether or not that makes the car a write off.

I think they'd be going down a rabbit hole trying to chip back on the price because some EML is on that could be reset and go off for good at £0 cost OR could potentially have come on when the car was hit.

They dont routinely connect the car up to any diagnostic equipment as part of a valuation to check timestamps on when a fault was first logged.  In fact, when a fault was first logged may not be when the light comes on anyway.  The car often only flicks on the EML when an error repeatedly occurs over time.

They look at the value of the car, a car with an EML light is worth significantly less than one without it on.

EML lights can be anything from a quick fix to a 2 or 3 k ecu.
    How would they even know?
Even if the assessor, for some hyper-weird reason, decided to start the engine, the light could just as easily be attributed to the accident.
I don't see this as an issue at all.
    Neither do i.

And its not up to the assessor to try to deduce from an EML or code as to the cost of repair anyway.

I really think this is a non issue.
