Thanks, that's the number I've used before.
I think I've gone full circle here, I'm back to thinking its a genuine letter but very poor in several areas.0 -
I phoned HMRC last Friday. 8 am is the best time.
The number is 0300 200 33000 -

An update fyi.
I phoned HMRC, the person I spoke to said the letter had not come from HMRC and suggested I inform the phising team by email. She didn't seem of the same caliber as people I had spoke to previously but it seemed a way forward so I did. The phising team quickly replied saying not them and advised I contact the people who had told me to contact them.
I complained.
A day or so later I got an email from a complaints case worker who explained that the demand for deferred payment had indeed come from HMRC, but it was due to a keying error on their part while entering my voluntary NI contribution data. She apologised and said the letter can be destroyed.
So glad I complained. I could forsee a situation in a few months time when I would have had a battle when I realised I wasn't getting the predicted state pension or something.5 -
HMRC are aware of employment changes when the P45 is processed. Not the ex employers responsibility to monitor your tax code for benefits. Other than to submit a P11d annually after the end of the tax year.degs88 said:I think that part of the problem is that my previous employer didn't tell HMRC that I had left their employment. I told them though, when I realised I was still paying tax on a car allowance. Got a refund too!0
