HSBC repayment options

in Credit cards
I've tried looking up HSBC website, but this wasn't very insightful. Is there a way to repay HSBC credit card using the debit card issued by another Bank? (Lloyds banking group, if it matters)?

The easiest way is to do a faster payment from your Lloyds account.
Is there a reason you want to use the card itself? They'll take a card payment over the phone if it's essential you do it that way, but a lot more effort.0 -

Thanks. The reason is that I need to spend £500 using the Debit card linked my Halifax Reward account.

If you look on your credit card statement it will tell you all the payment options available to you. I don't have an HSBC credit card, but all of my credit cards allow debit card payments. Halifax Clarity limits how many you can do - from memory you are only allowed 2 a month.

Apparently after being on hold with HSBC phone banking assistant for some time I have been told that I need to get in touch with Halifax to arrange this payment. Somehow it didn't sound very convincing to me

So that would say they do not take card payments.Emily_Joy said:Deleted_User said:

I know First Direct never used to have that facility.Life in the slow lane1 -
I have a HSBC card and can make payments from my bank's online banking (or mobile banking) by setting up a payment to the sort code and account number listed on the back of my HSBC card statements. I use my 16 digit credit card number as the Reference for the payment.

That doesn't solve the OP problem though - they need to pay by card to try and get a minimum spend on the debit card (as they clarified later). Would a card payment be classed as cash and would it qualify for the Halifax spend anyway?LukeHayward said:I have a HSBC card and can make payments from my bank's online banking (or mobile banking) by setting up a payment to the sort code and account number listed on the back of my HSBC card statements. I paid my Amex and Aqua bill and it classed as a Purchase for the £5 reward.

Except that you have NOT made the payment via a debit card.... Which is what the OP wants to do.LukeHayward said:I have a HSBC card and can make payments from my bank's online banking (or mobile banking) by setting up a payment to the sort code and account number listed on the back of my HSBC card statements. An option may be to top up Revolut with the Halifax debt card and paid your HSBC credit via bank transfer from Revolut. I'm not sure how long that will last a Revolut is catching on to people using their service for this purpose. Another option is to pay a bills that are normally paid via direct debts if you don't need them for cashback (Natwest, Santander, Barclays, ect.). Or get a better credit card that pays rewards and accepts debt cards.0
