New car and battery
How long is a piece of string.
There must be car salesmen who have an idea. Yes it varies from car to car. For example i had to replace the honda jazz battery (Assuming a suitable size).
Anyone roughly guide me, please?

Are you talking about the main EV electric battery that powers the motor(s), then yes it's £1000's to replace but they normally have a decent warranty/design life, but who knows when they start getting a few years old, whether we'll be writing off cars because of a dud battery. But to balance this, the costs are coming down all the time2

If you're talking about the main traction battery (not the 12V one for accessories), then it will be many thousands. £5000 would be a rough ballpark figure, but will depend on the car.The good news is that most EVs have a long battery warranty these days, perhaps 7 or 8 years. The batteries are now starting to fail on some of the earliest Nissan Leafs, but there is a cottage industry springing up refurbishing them using cells from scrapped cars.Other than those Leafs, nobody even knows how long they last, because most haven't gone wrong yet.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.2 -
I despair that people can “dip” into spending thousands on a new-technology EV car and apparently not have the slightest clue about that tech, or what the associated costs might be! @spurdog1 I’m sure you’ll have traded it in at the end of the lease well before the battery pack reaches its ‘end of life’. If you bought it to keep forever then you should be asking the dealer you bought it from for this critical information.Arch1

Yes indeed. Used car dealers are well known for their honesty
. In this case, clairvoyance.would also be needed.

When I buy my car, this last one lasted 12 years.
However, when you buy the new electric vehicle, you will not need to pay for petrol, as it runs solely on Electricity (the car I'm thinking of). I think I've rattled a few people, but that was not my intent. Just to get some information. (We're not all clever dicks). This is not my field (cars). I hope for a few more kind thoughts.
Hunyani, thanks on figures, can you be more specific on Honda Jazz

My wife had a Honda CRZ Hybrid, got rid of it 7 years ago. It was nearly 3 years old, still immaculate but got a fault where the management light came on and there was a very hot smell.
The dealership wanted us to pay over £100 upfront to run a diagnostic test on it as we told them the management light had cleared. I refused and complained to Honda they agreed to cover any costs.
It turned out the fault code showed the EV was at fault, but it was only an EV fan which was replaced free of charge.
I can't recall how long the warranty on the EV was for, maybe 5 years. I remember they told us the cost would be £2500 to replace out with warranty.
The thought of the EV failing after the warranty was up scared us, so was traded in for an Audi A3 S Line.

Electric cars are still outside the mainstream, with a great deal of scepticism about their suitability / costs. They are dearer to buy but appear to be cheaper to run than petrol / diesel cars.
Here's an interesting article about how Teslas stand up to very high mileages:-
