Parcelforce post delivery HMRC Charges

Hi
At Xmas I ordered a new phone. Came from Spain but wasn't aware of that. It was delivered on 23rd of Jan
Just had a letter from parcelforce ask ing for a total of £71.55 the majority of which is import tax at 54quid. On a 300 quid phone. Is this legal, do I have to pay it (as I've already got the phone) and what are my options?
Thanks in advance

Parcelforce have incurred the charge and paid it, and now they're chasing you.  Yes it's legal and if you don't pay it I suspect Parcelforce will pursue it which may incur further time, effort and costs.

The date of order is almost certainly relevant here, and you may be able to do something to recover the charge if it was incorrectly applied, but that doesn't change the debt you have with Parcelforce.
  • You should get the Spanish tax back if you have to pay uk tax

Yes it is entirely legal, it would in fact be illegal not to pay it. Your options are to pay it, or to refuse, be taken to court and have to pay a lot more.
