O/S Daily Friday 23 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry but cloudy - hopefully sun will make an appearance again today, looks a bit frosty too.
DH and myself are enjoying first cuppas of the day, DS1 is getting ready for work, DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was steak and red wine pie, mash, veg and gravy - very nice it was too. Tonight I'll be having fish with veg/salad. Menfolk will be having breaded chicken, chips and beans.
Yesterday I got done what I needed, today I'll be heading to the SM first thing as normal, I'm going to strip our bed and get the linen washed and hopefully line dried.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone
It's a nice bright morning here and I think it's going to be another lovely day. I am still hardly sleeping due to pain so I am a bit fed up (and tired) but I will try and grab a nana nap later.
I joined WW online last night as I am desperate to get some more weight off. It's changed a bit since I last went but I think I have got the general idea. I have meal planned for the week ahead and I am incorporating much more veg as it is zero points. Today I am going to use a 2 chubby cubs recipe of sticky orange chicken and rice. I will cook a cauliflower to go with it as we have a couple lurking in our fridge. I am going to make a start on the sauce in a minute so the chicken can marinate. It's a good job everyone is used to me cooking early in the day as that is when I have a bit of energy and there is lots of peace and quiet.
The nurse is coming today to change my dressings again. I am dreading it really as the bandages I have on now have stuck to my wounds and it's going to be painful to remove. I can only take paracetamol for the pain which doesn't do a lot to be honest. Oh well, I shall grin and bear it as it will be worth it in the long run.
Hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are doing. Take care all xx11 -
Morning folks.Bella - good luck in pulling the paperwork together.DP1 - your comment about DGD enjoying a sand pit brought a huge smile to my face and took me right back to some happy days in my childhood. My aunt and uncle had a sandpit right outside their kitchen door which we children loved so much. When doing the scanning of photos I came across one, I'll dig it back out and post it up. Such good times.dumpling - so sorry to read about your ongoing leg problems, I hope the change of dressing isn't too awful.Yesterday wasn't such a good day at all. DM was in great difficulty with her breathing so I called the GP, he came straight out. She has fluid on her lungs and probably in her stomach too so she's now got a short course of an additional diuretic to flush it all out. And boy is it working! When I last saw her at 1.00am this morning she was breathing so much easier and weeing for a medal. 😀Apart from watching one programme I spent the evening listening to a book and keeping an eye on DM. The GP was so good, he even gave me a whole bunch of new face shields as he used my last one when here (DM can't hear anything through a mask) 😷Earlier Alan came to move the bed remote control and then he hauled the glass-fronted cupboard into my room. I'm going to enjoy filling it although today I may rest.Last night I was sent a link to news feature on Look North about an old friend of mine and the lack of social care he's receiving now he's at the end of his life. It made me so sad to see him in that state. I feel so 'lucky' that we are not facing the same huge problems as DM is still fully cognitive.Thoughts to our poorlies and those taking care of them. Happy Friday to all.EDIT - here's the photo - Summer 1958. My brother and I on the right, my two cousins, my mother (at the back with the grumpy face) my aunt and my beloved Omi. Love that the adults are sitting in the sandpit which is not what it's for!
The little blonde boy is now my very learned lawyer cousin though he's still mischevious.

Morning All
Bright and sunny again, throws from the living room are washed and on the line, little greenhouse opened up and the windows left on the latch for the day, I'll open them properly when I get home.
I got my bike from its service yesterday with the bike seat on for the little one and rode along the canal with her while DD took the car back home. Little one cried nearly all the way, don'tthink she's keen on her new mode of transport! Anyway, she cheered up when we looked at the swans and her Mummy came to meet us.
Great photo Gers, you all look so tanned!
Hope your leg dressing isn't too painful dumpling.
Good luck with the paperwork bella.
Right, off to work for me, hope you all have a good day, take care.XX11 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Love the sand pit pic.
I'd like to stay in bed as it's so cold but the cows are eating our mooring ropes so I best get up and chase them away.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another glorious start with sun forecast all day. I'll crack on with the Friday Tidy and then get back out in the garden with my book. It's so peaceful through the week with the neighbours at work. No lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, power tools buzzing away! It will be a different story this w/e no doubt!
I just need to dust and vac round this morning, the bathroom and kitchen got a good clean yesterday. But I have the hairdresser coming by at some point, Second time since the end of lockdown! Now that's greedy!! I had said to her don't take too much off this time as it might be a shock to the system having got so out of hand. She took me at my word but I need a bit more off as I can't get it into the sort of urchin style I like and I am sick of faffing with it! She is also going to my BF's as she said exactly the same to her and can't do a thing with hers either. What are we like!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies and poorly loved ones. DUMPLING I hope the dressing change isn't too painful. GERS I hope the water tabs keep doing their job for DM but it's a pain needing the loo so often when not very mobile. TAFF I couldn't stop thinking of pasties all day after your post! Yum yum they sound delicious. Take care one and all and stay safe x
Editing to add what a lovely pic of days gone by GERS"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
Good morning, another sunny one!Gers, sorry to hear your Mum didn't have a good day on Wednesday, but I'm pleased that the diuretics are working, hope she's picking up. Your Dr sounds good.Nels, I'm so sorry your hands are so bad, i hope painkillers help a bit.Dumpling, hope your dressing change will go ok, I imagine you'll be gritting your teeth.Ruby, I'm sorry that the Tamoxifen is giving you bad side effects. I know that people say it's better than the alternative, but even so. I am so pleased to have finished 5 years of Letrozole and its side effects.Hi Nan, I really hope that you'll soon feel a bit better, in fact a lot better.Taff, those pasties sound pretty good,DP1, children love Alnwick Garden don't they, we are going to take our youngest Dgc's this summer. A couple of years ago we took Dgd and a friend came with us with her Dgc's - all we saw were their backs as they tore about all day, they were exhausted and just flopped on the way home.Given that quite a few of us are having health/life problems I feel guilty saying that we had a lovely day yesterday at Alnwick, plus a beach walk at Alnmouth.Visiting an elderly friend this morning with some shopping for her, and a bit of sewing that she needed doing. We can sit in her garden , though the wind is still chilly. She is a lady in her 80's who is still vigorous and mightily house proud, but has some health problems and is still careful about going out.Thinking of everyone who is not well/in pain - take care folks12

Morning all
Lovely photo Gers...hope your mum has a good day.
Work all day today then I have a doctor's appointment at 4 - DD will pick me up from work and take me and then little one will come back home with me for her Friday sleepover.
And yes another play in her sandpit.
Hope everyone has a good day10 -
Scarlet, don't feel guilty, it's lovely to hear of someone being out and about. I do envy you your beach walk though - we should have been in Cromer last weekend, I do miss the sea.
Gers, I'm glad the Dr sorted out your mum's breathing problems.
Dumpling, I hope your dressing change isn't as painful as you think.
Steve woke me at 3am not feeling well with a temp of 38 so I lay there for a while wondering if we'd have to go back to hospital. He feels a bit better but I'm afraid that he might go downhill this afternoon as that is the pattern. He's shamefaced because I have been telling him he's overdoing things, one of these days he'll listen to me.
Esben wasn't at his best Wednesday and yesterday either, he had four vaccination jabs on Tuesday and was obviously a bit miserable with them. They seem to have so many more these days. Laura said he was happier last night though so hopefully he's feeling a bit better today. Laura and Brian enjoyed their first meal out although they were a bit cold dining alfresco, I think I'll wait.12 -
Morning! Sunny but chilly but that'll burn off in an hour or two. Today I'm hoping to do lots of garden pottering and I'm taking Alexa with me to play some music. I ordered myself a swanky new compost bin and when it arrives will sell the other one. I have two plants to move when the old one is gone because that sits in a quite shady part of the garden so I'll move the fatsia there where it'll be happier, along with [just the] one variegated leaf lords and ladies. I splurged in the garden centers yesterday. I've got a new border fork, two pots and about 12 pots of various flowers. Two are for a friend, she loves fuschias and one of these is quite nice, white petals edged in pink or red. I also got some trailing pelargoniums for this year and some trailing nepeta. Lets hope the cats stay away from that. So today I am moving some stuff out of pots, some stuff into pots and doing a general tidy of the working area. I have to say, I am not a fan of peat free compost. My tomato seedlings are not happy with it either. Hence the swanky compost bin because it kills weed seeds so I can use it for my own potting compost. It just dries so quickly and the texture is odd, like shredded rope.Only one pasty left...that's my lunch today. Now that I know how to make the pastry and have saved the page to my computer for future reference, the next lot will be steak for sure. Thank you for liking my pasties
I bloody enjoyed them! It was I think because I have been craving gregs steak slices..Isn't it odd when you have a hankering for something completely specific? Today is also washing day so the bed will be changed and hung out. I'll put that on in a minute.
Fab pic Gers. In old pictures children seem to look much more wholesome...nanny, I'll get you a broomstick special for swiping the black dog awayruby, hope they are understanding at this meeting. Florence, your squirrels made me smile...TA,double haircuts? Very extravagant! But if you're L'Oreal, you're L'Oreal! Hester, so they really eat the ropes? dumpling, well done for taking steps, literally and figuratively speaking. Scarelt, just because one person [or more] are having a not great time it doesn't mean you have to have a not great time too. If you're safe and enjoying yourself then that's just as important. snoozer, sorry to hear steve is stubborn so and so. Are there tablets for that? Hey all reading along, smash it out of the park with cheer today, stay sane!
