Puppy Crying At Night Advice

  • I have had dogs for 40 years and each puppy I have brought home has slept with me in the bedroom. If they disturbed during the night I would take them outside for the toilet. Gradually moving them from bed to bedside to landing to whichever room I wanted them to sleep as they grew up.
If a puppy or dog is screaming barking etc he/she is not a happy dog the more work you put in the better the outcome.

Thanks @Sheramber for your thoughts on our 4.5months puppy.   Everything you have suggested we are already doing and although my husband has his concerns re our little fellow he is the one that will spend time with him coaxing and encouraging him to remain calm and relaxed.
Please also be assured we are working with him and not against him, for that reason I thought I would ask for any ideas on here, and maybe just needed a bit of support rom those not close to the situation.  Perhaps now in hindsight I shouldn't.
Letting a puppy cry it out at night is not working with him.

We’ve had dogs all our adult lives and they have all settled in really well and I can’t remember any night problems.  I always used to wrap up a hot water bottle and put it in their basket along with a clock.  I figured the warmth and the ticking would remind the puppy of its mother.

Hi I'm not sure if this is something you've tried or if I've missed it sorry if I have but we have a pup now 5 months old and for the first 2 weeks I slept downstairs on the sofa while she was asleep on her bed. I didnt pay her any attention, each time she came to me I put her straight back and quietly told her bed. Doing it this way allowed me to let her out easier and just give her that comfort because they are still babies and just need that reassurance. Doing this actually helped her to settle in and also potty train really quickly. We also brought a pet camera and the night I decided to go bed I watched her for a while and she stayed in her bed no crying or anything. Also make sure he is tired before going to bed, we played with our girl for a little then half an hour before sleep I turned of the light and put her in her bed to calm down. I know this doesnt suit everyone but its something we have done with both our pups and it worked. I'd definitely do it again.
Regarding car sickness this can be normal in pups our pup is only just getting used to the car just little drives at a time.
