Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct

I have an alliance & leicester premier direct current account. I need to withdraw about £2000 which is obviously more than the £250 ATM limit.

What are my options, will I have any problems asking in the branch considering this is supposedly an internet only account?

Their website says I can pay in using a branch, but offers no such branch service for withdrawls.

You can withdraw at a branch or a post office if you phone Telephone Banking and tell them how much and where and when.

As per the previous post, you should expect additional ID to be requested when withdrawing larger amounts - photo ID is obviously best for this sort of thing with any bank.

As MarkyMark said, just ring them up and make an appointment in your local branch, it's what we've done before.

By the way, it's an internet and telephone banking account, so you can always ring them if you need. :)
  • Thanks, I will phone them on Monday and see what they say.

When you phone, make sure you have your phone ID details to hand. If you don't they will say they can't help you.

(My experience was that I was in an A&L branch - using their access phone - and could not get anywhere that way without the phone ID, even though I had paper ID and the branch personnel could confirm I was who I said I was. I closed all my A&L accounts.)

That sounds like a pretty stupid over-reaction, to be honest, LittleVoice. How do you expect them to confirm your identity other than by providing the agreed password details etc.? Showing paper ID in the branch is not the same thing.

And phone ID details consist of not very much that shouldn't be easy to remember - an account number and a 5 digit PIN, isn't it?

Premier Direct is an internet and phone based account. Having to remember your phone security details doesn't exactly seem unreasonable. ;)

Both my A&L phone PIN's have been 4 digits.

To be fair (to LittleVoice) though, I don't believe you can change this number to one more memorable (like you can with debit card PIN's and online passwords), and if you primarily transact online and/or it's not your main account, it's easy to forget it. Remember, you're supposed to memorise it - not write it down. ;)

According to the welcome pack you can change the telephone banking PIN by using the telephone banking automated service option 3. You of course won't be able to do this if you have forgoten your original PIN!

Thanks Nigel. I'd forgotten that (if indeed I ever knew it), but I have a photographic memory for numbers so never needed to change mine anyway.
