Overgrown garden

Just bought a house with a very overgrown garden which has ivy, weed, 2 trees stumps to be removed, as well as 2 very old sheds. The garden is about 6-7m long 4m wide. I’ve been quoted £1200 for removal of everything which includes 2 skips, is this reasonable?

Where I am, the skip hire would be around £600 for two skips. You're then paying ~£600 for labour/skill/wear and tear on tools.

Removal of stumps isn't easy, we recently removed several thin stumps from our garden (horrible leylandii) and it took a while. The ones I can see in your photo appear to be a lot bigger but may be easier to remove if they are rotting.

Plus, you don't have to do it and if it's left as a blank canvas, you can then do as you like with it.

The quote doesn't appear to be absurd; if someone had said £1200 to clear that size area of my garden, I would have happily paid it. We spent weeks sorting ours out as it was a neglected jungle when we purchased the house, full of everything from scrap wheelbarrows to "bags for life".

We also found out that skips don't necessarily hold as much as you'd like. We ended up hiring three skips, which increased in size each time!
