Faulty car
Hi I purchased a car 8 months ago on finance and the gearbox has broken as it is a automatic I have been quoted £4700 to repair it which is more than the car is worth and I've still got 4 years left on the repayments any ideas on what I can do tried the finance company and the garage I purchased the car from and neither are willing to help

What age and mileage of car purchased?
What mileage and use since?
Given the time that has elapsed, demonstrating that this is down to the supplying dealer will be very difficult. Gearbox is a wearable item.
Was the car supplied with a warranty? Can you contact the warranty company directly?0 -
..given the assumed age of the car and the fact that it's more than 8 months since purchase I think your only option it to get it repaired or scrap it.Is the quote from a "main dealer" (seems high), if it is try and find a good independent dealer who may well be cheaper?.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."0

No warranty, no fix and that's they risk you take with no warrnty. Even with a warranty it's all subject to the type of warranty you have, who it is with, and their vast t&C's being met.0

Sub-£4,500-value car suggests it's not in the first flush of youth.
Can you prove the fault was present at the time of purchase eight months ago? No, because you've been driving around quite happily for eight months.
Has the transmission had all oil changes that it's been due from new? Documented...?
If the repair bill is more than the outstanding finance, then pay the finance settlement, and sell the car for spares or repair.

Where have you been quoted £4500? What car is it? You should be able to find a gearbox specialist that can fix it for cheaper than main dealer prices. Depending on the age you may be able to get a second hand gearbox and have that fitted.
But this does highlight the risks in financing an old car over 5 years termRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
