Anybody heard of Work And Health Programme.

Asking on behalf of my grandson, he is currently unemployed on JSA and doing a couple of college courses and volunteering to help his employment prospects however, his coach told him over the telephone to expect a call from WHP to see if they can help him. He has googled it and found this is a mandatory scheme and he is worried about being forced into this.
Unfortunately it seems hard to find much info about this type of scheme, he is mainly concerned that it will disrupt his courses and volunteering which he thinks are helping him get interviews, he knows from experience that these schemes are the usual work placements and CV writing things which he currently has access to with the college.
Does anybody know what the attendance would be for this like the old New Deal sitting inside a room all day looking at old newspapers type of thing, his main concern is having waited so long to start his courses now having to leave them for this scheme.

How long has he been unemployed? It can be mandatory but it depends on the work coach. Why not await the call and he can see what they tell him and decide whether or not to take it forward, might be worth checking with the work coach whether it is mandatory for him to attend."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

The work and health programme does not need to mean cv writing and forced courses to attend. He would be allocated a personal advisor who would work with him to identify barriers and come up with a plan to address them.If he is already completing things that are seen to help secure employment this will be allowed to continue. He will more than likely find all contact will be email and telephone calls at the moment. They often have access to vacancies because sometimes employers will approach these schemes to secure people interviews. It’s nothing like “your going on this course so tough get on with it”,
Gov website has a whole section on this programme and how it works. He will need to engage though if mandated to complete the programme as he will get sanctioned.1 -
This link may help. It's generally a good provision and those who want a job, can get one fairly quickly through it.

This is just a rebranding of the old workfare type schemes which despite failing they keep bringing back.
It might be the best time to be forced onto a scheme because with the covid situation he is hardly going to be sent anywhere until at least the end of June or until vaccinated.
From what i understand it is just an advisor who he would meet with on a regular basis offering job placements, work trials or training etc. I don't know much about this scheme but i do know the Shaw Trust did help me to find work in the old days so i would tell him to chill out and not worry about it, if they force him to leave college make a complaint.
According to the help he has access to at the college i doubt he would benefit much from doing this anyway and finding work during this time is going to be very tough indeed but good luck!Time Is The Enemy!0 -

I am a hater of most of the programmes that have been introduced, but I have to say that this one seems to work well for customers. It's not new or awe inspiring, but it work's for some.1 -
Shaw Trust do more than Work and Health Programme anyway so just because the OP googled them and this came up doesn't mean that this is what the grandson has been referred to!"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0
