Has anyone put up ceiling tiles or cladding in a room that isnt a bathroom or kitchen? Online searches seems to suggest these products are intended for wet type rooms so it a done thing to use them elsewhere if I can find a nice simple one?
Due to working from home im planning on decorating what was the kids playroom (garage converted 20 years ago) but is now my home office.
Ceiling is a swirly pattern that I can scrape off but I was looking for an easy DIY solution to modernise it alongside the repainting of walls, new carpet and some new furniture.
Im not very good at visualising the finished article in my mind and different tastes notwithstanding, I wonder if it will just look rubbish.

A swirly pattern suggests artex - One way to hide it is to put another layer of artex over the top without any texture to it. Not too difficult to DIY. Another option is to get the ceiling skimmed with gypsum plaster, but to get a decent finish requires the services of a plasterer unless you are well practiced in the art.Avoid polystyrene ceiling tiles - These burn very easily, giving off toxic fumes. Not a problem unless you have the misfortune to have a fire..Wood cladding - Very <ahem> retro. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -

Thanks - I believe the swirls are actually made from plaster - maybe skimming a ceiling wasnt a regular thing 20 years ago?
Defo wasnt going to go polystyrene tiles (we had them in most rooms of our house in the 70s!) and wasnt going to go wood.
There are some nice looking white plastic offerings but maybe im just barking up the wrong tree with the idea of panels/cladding ceiling in a study/office area.
I may have to revise my plan but im ideally looking to find something that looks modern that is within my DIY skillset and plastering is not on that list0
