Butlins cancelled my holiday

I booked a holiday to butlinsand have paid all the installments well before the deadline. The holiday was a surprise and my partner paid for something out of our account the same day last week that I paid the last bit. I had no correspondence from butlins to say the payment hadn't gone through untill I got an email on Sunday to say my holiday was canceled. I phone them straight away to ask what happened and they said the payment had not gone through. They said they called me once which by my records show it was on Thursday at 16.50 so I was stil in work and they did not leave a message. They have sold off my holiday and the only thing available now is a much reduced room with just 2 bedrooms and no kitchen or lounge area but I have had to pay the same amount.
I wonder where I stand with complaining about being treated unfairly. Thank you
Surely if an email is sufficient to let me know that my holiday is cancelled then this should have been a method by which they could have contacted me to let me know there was an issue. And not giving me time to respond.

How did you pay? Bank transfer or debit card?

Did the money go out of your account ?

I would guess as a payment has technically been missed, the contract between you and Butlins has been broken so they will be within their rights to cancel. I would check their T&C's just to be sure though.

I noticed their prices have been hiked massively from when I went to book, so bet they are being quick to cancel the holidays at normal cost.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
  • You’ve had a lucky escape. Use the money to buy flights and rent a villa in Cyprus instead.

Slightly snobbish which reeks of working class desperately pretending to be all middle class. I know of doctors and other professionals who have been to Butlins as it is good entertainment for their children. Yes you occasionally get the loud mouthed type, but that happens everywhere, even in Cyprus.

No, not snobbish at all, and let’s not pretend that Butlins is working class nowadays, it really isn’t.

I’m off to Aphrodite Villas in June, and paying no more for a week of guaranteed sunshine with a private pool than I’d pay for a wet weekend in Minehead.

You hardly notice the rain as the majority of activities are indoors. The pool at Skegness is great (wish the UK had a lot more indoor waterparks). My opinion is young children would much prefer a week at Butlins et al. A plain pool and intense heat can be a bit wearing for young uns.

My last break at Butlins only cost 250 for a room, for 4 nights, one adult and child, so was cheap compared to the apartments.

I'd rather take my kids to somewhere like Butlins where they have so many different activites and entertainment,  than to sit by a pool all day.
