Can they refuse cash?

My partner booked a holiday last year for the end of this September thinking it would be OK, but now we are second guessing it! We have the test of our deposit of £600 due the end of this week and tui have said they won't accept cash. I'm looking for a loop hole out and am I right in thinking this is classed as a debt and they cannot refuse legal tender to settle the debt? In which case we could say we want to cancel on that basis or am I clutching at straws?

Yes, they can refuse cash. 'Legal tender' doesn't mean what you think it does.
If you cancel, you'll be subject their standard cancellation terms and fees.0 -
Rather than second-guessing, now is a smart time to check your insurance situation.

Is there a problem settling the balance with a credit or debit card ?

There's no problem just I was looking for an excuse to not to and get out of it. Looks like I'm clutching at straws and will just have to settle it and hope it gets cancelled! Thanks0

As much as I hate to link to the Sun, Martin has commented on this very issue himself.Even addresses the debt issue, which is only relevant if it is a court awarded debt.0

Well at least you're honest - most posters would make up some nonsense story about how their third-great-aunt-once-removed left them stacks of cash and they're allergic to banks so can't pay it in.
Fingers crossed it all goes the way you want, I'm in a similar situation.0
